Three generations Germany trip (part 2)
This is the second part of my trip to Germany with three generations of my wife's family, for part one, see http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=99222
After seeing a number of castles in the south western part of Germany, we went to the Rhine valley. The first stop was Rhinefels castle, in the town of St. Goar.
It is one of the largest castle ruins on the Rhine.
with many ares to explore
There are many more photos of this castle in my gallery, I had to pick just a few of the many for this.
We spent the entire morning there, even eating lunch in a restaurant there, before going to the town below for a bit of shopping. After that, we went two towns down the river to Bacharach, where we stayed at this hotel
The hotel is built into the town wall.
The castle in Bacharach
One afternoon, while walking around Bacharach, all of the traffic in town was stopped
There were firetrucks and police all in the center of town. We never figured out what the problem was, but everyone got out of their cars and walked around to look.
We went up one of the towers of the town wall, and this is what we saw:
A view of the town at night. In the background is the oldest building in town.
The town supermarket, where we bought some good chocolates with liqueur fillings
A stream running through town, near the hotel
The town church and the ruins of an old church
The ruins
And finally, we took a short cruise on the Rhine to St Goarhausen, across the river from St. Goar and back. On the way, we passed a castle in the river
The Loreley
and statue
Other towns
Other castles
Railroad tunnel portals that look like castles
And went through sleet
Thanks for looking. Many more photos of the trip are on my site. Part three will come later.
