Changing to Square Thumbs... ??

Hello,
Well I've recently started to change all my galleries (www.dgentile.com, smug mug pro account) to show square thumbs, as I'm quite fond of the format...
however with some galleries it has worked without problems (I've applied a preset I've had save to all galleries)... and for some it seems "stuck"...
I've waited for well over one hour, but it doesn't change anything... ??
does it simply take a lot of time if I apply this to multiple galleries, or do I need to do something specific?
thanks
daniel

Sorry about that! It definitely shouldn't have taken that long...
I'm actually surprised some of the galleries got re-thumbed after you applied a quick setting in bulk. I was pretty sure that bulk settings did NOT trigger the generation of new thumbs. I'm not sure whether this is by design or due to an oversight. I'll have to dig a bit more...
At any rate, I'm sorry for the hassle. I went through and batch squared your galleries so hopefully you'll be all set!

Thumbnails: Square: _ Original: _ Changes will take a few minutes to appear...

Yeah so when you change that toggle on a gallery and click "Save", the thumbs get regenerated.
However, if you apply a previously-created quick setting to a gallery using the "Apply to other galleries" link, we do not check the newly applied Thumbnails setting against the previous Thumbnails setting, and so we don't trigger thumbnail regeneration.
I just confirmed the behavior, but I'm not sure whether that was a conscious decision on our part or not. (Read: is there a good reason for it working like that? )

Anne, thank you for squaring my thumbs
hmm.. I would still be interested to know whether this is a conscious descision or a bug...

Hmmm....
about 99% of the thumbs are square... however on the "homepage" under "Most Popular" are still some to be found which have not been squared...
Some of the ones which are not square are also distorted now...
but the weird thing is this: if I click on "most popular" and it takes me to the longer list... there all thumbs are square and not a single one is distorted.
it's only on the main-entry page on www.dgentile.com on the "Most Popular" section.
I've tried to empty my browser's cache... used a different newly installed browser, just to make sure this is not a problem on my end of things...
but to no avail...
thanks for helping...

and finally this unlisted gallery I want to keep the thumbnails in
their original proportions (which they are, even though at various
points they've been set to square but didn't change):

Due to additional problems getting registered on this forum (now solved thanks to a dgrin admin) I ended up contacting the smugmug helpdesk directly. Their response was to request a couple of days for an engineer to look into since they'd never seen so many galleries fail to update at once. So it's being looked at and maybe a permanent solution will be found to the bug.
