One common sparrow and one not so common sparrow

The lowly house sparrows, but hey, they look pretty good here and in fact at this ranch in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, they did not overwhelm the other birds at all. In fact, they were quite docile compared to the city and suburban variety.

What was really fun though was seeing and getting a few little less than horrible shots of a shy sparrow that prefers the dense brush in which to hide. It is the olive sparrow which is primarily a Mexican/Latin American species of sparrow that does make it to the far southern tip of Texas where it is locally common, but hard to see.

I was hoping to get better shots later on in the day, but that was the last that I saw of it.

Thanks Mike. That third one turned out nicely. I just wish more of the side were showing.

Thanks Wally. House Sparrows in breeding colors are quite handsome.

Very nice Stephen! Believe it or not I have no decent sparrow pics in my collection.

For some reason, my work seems to have blacklisted photobucket, so I can only see your non-Smugmug pics from home headscratch.gif

It is so difficult to get everything right when shooting these flightly little ones. The first and third are nice comps while the last one is the best technically...hard to get the whole bird, I know.

Getting excellent shots requires a great deal of patience that I mostly lack...so I will hope for luck!:D

That is strange. Let's see if you can see these. These are not all of the pics in the post, but you get the idea.

Nice sparrow shots Stephen. I agree with Ric; it is tough to get really good shots of these little guys. thumb.gif
