My story is really simple: came to US on H1B (working visa) in 1997, got my Green Card in 2001 (got laid off *the same day* ), applied for citizenship in 2006, got stuck in FBI name check for two years (wrote to president, senator, congressman - got replies, but nothing really helped), and finally it's all over. Only need to get the passport, which is simply a few weeks waiting for a mail :-)
Congrats Nik! My wife recently got her citizenship; and I'm now working on my mother's paperwork for it. It's a long (and trying) process, but, it's worth it. Hope you enjoy your new status!

Thanks, David!
Congrats on the wifie!
And yes, I do!
did they ask you if you were a terrorist? That's the first question they asked my wife. Granted, she can look a bit shifty at times. Being all foreign and whatnot.

No, I wish they did, I would simply say NO and it wouldn't take two goddamn years to find it out :-)
As of today, Friday July 11th 2008, yours truly is a full frame ;-) citizen of the United States of America.
11 year long journey... so many things changed, so many things learned.
Happy to share this news here!

Yes, being able to travel freely across the most of the globe without a necessity to wait for months for a lousy visa is definitely something I have been looking forward all those years:-)
