Agreed, artsy is not so easy, but it's a heck of a lot of fun to try
ones luck where ever you might find yourself. :D Michael

I like the color of the spigot and the color and detail in the wood.

    As far as artsty-

I dont think the comp works very well-
There is nothing going on to the left of the 2x4 so you could have used it for a natural edge of the photo.

I don't think there is much going on above the 1st 2x6 either. Just more of the same.

Play with DOF would have worked here by shooting from a little different angle and significantly closer- almost macro close. The details of the web vs the details of the wood would be pretty neat to see.

For this exact shot I would crop down to the 1st 2x6 (just below the grey) - In from the rt side to the inner edge of the 2x4 (inline with the brass- iron connection of the spigot)- and then possibly the bottom a little bit too.

To me cropping choice is pretty specific to the photographer just as much
as the original shot was to same photographer. To perhaps tell a better
story out of any given photo a crop may be just the ticket. To me cropping
is getting a chance to go to the view finder again without being at the
view finder. Another chance at composition choices before firing the shutter so's to speak.
So just as in a good composition with no crop, nice if it can
be made to happen, a crop is also looking for good balance, proportions,
interesting elements and of course story telling with as high an impact as
any particular shot of subject will give.

Think of that as just me talking to myself when I go about it. :D

My take is this... I like the wood knot countering the faucet. No small
black void under the 2x4 below said faucet. Black void upper left is
    barn character. Broken board. rolleyes1.gifMichael

Hi Zanotti, I like it nod.gif wonder if there is a spider actually using that valve as a home..it's quite thick with webbing.

The colour and texture in the wood came out real nice.

    Good Shot thumb.gif ... Skippy :D
