Pointing a subdomain somehwere else

Hello,

So I have www.mydomain.com pointed successfully to smugmug. I also own a second domain where I host my blog at:

blog.anotherhost.com

What I want to do is add a subdomain, blog.mydomain.com, and point it to blog.anotherhost.com and I can't figure out how to do it.

mydomain.com is sitting at GoDaddy (with no associated web hosting) and I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to be using CNAMEs or going to the "Add subdomain" menu. I've been messing around with both but can't seem to get it to point to blog.anotherhost.com. Also, I'd rather it point there rather than a simple redirect.

Thanks!

It is possible to do what you're wanting to do - I do it with my primary domain and it works well. Basically, in the Total DNS Control Panel at Godaddy you'll need to add another A Record for "blog" which points to the IP address of the server hosting your blog (essentially pointing blog.whatever.com to a different web server than your main domain). If you give us more specifics about your blog (software or service used) we can give more helpful details for configuration at that end.

    Same issue
I've been working on this for far to long today. I have to break down and ask my fellow smuggers for help.

I'm trying to have my blog address set to:
    blog.jlgoldenphotography.com.

Currently, "jlgoldenphotography.blogspot.com" is the only way for me to access the blog.

Do I need to buy another random address from Godaddy or is there a way for me to use my already purchased "jlgoldenphotography.com" address for the blog also?

I only paid the $10 Godaddy fee so jlgoldenphotography.com is not hosted anywhere but here at smugmug (is it actually hosted?).

Please assist...I think I'm close but it still doesn't work correctly.

I am not sure how blogspot handles it. I think when I helped my friend set hers up, they only allowed a single A record.

So you would setup a subdomain using

blog A record to the IP that blogspot gives you. They may also do CNAMEs now. But you will need to ask them that.

If you do not touch the CNAME and A records that point at SmugMug, that will not change anything with your SmugMug account.

Can I host the blog somewhere else that is maybe a little more user friendly?

    Thanks for the response!

ne_nau.gif why? I have a blogspot blog, and it's at blog.moonriverphotography.com, via godaddy. What's the issue?

I'm trying to do the exact same thing you have at moonriver i.e. set up the blog then configure the blog to look like my website. For now, i'm just trying to set up the blog.

I know i'm close to having it all work but it's not quite there.

If you type in blog.jlgoldenphotography.com, a 404 error appears.

A pic of my godaddy DNS panel:

Can you tell by looking at the pic what i've done wrong?
