Every time I try to shoot the darn birds, the sun is on the wrong side, or I can't find em, or my shoe laces were untied.:D
Something always goes wrong. Today wasn't any different.

I just couldn't get around to were the sun would have been at a better angle.

Here are a couple of the shots.

Well, in spite of the challenging light situation, these are really wonderful (imho) clap.gif

That last one is not bad at all, although a touch more dof for the head would be nice.

Which do you like less - egrets or iTunes? mwink.gif

Thanks to your info on that "other" forum, I did find a ripper.

So for the moment, egrets are the bottom feeders.:D

Like the second shot Dave! I find the best time to photograph egrets is when it is overcast, or the sun is either rising or setting!

Dave, considering the lighting conditions these are very good shots. I know what you mean but there is nothing we can do about it. We take what we get sometimes and that is all we can do. Nice series.

    Thanks again guys.

The egrets in Minnesota are very shy.
These are crops from a XSi with a canon 300 f2.8 with a canon 2 time TC.
These darn birds sometimes are a pain to find, although on this day, I saw a dozen.
Only one was within shooting range.

I get a little frustrated when I see the shots from down south, where these darn birds
are sitting next to people on benches, sharing popcorn, telling jokes, and so on.:D

I realize that these aren't that bad, but with a few clouds in the sky, or if I could have
moved to my right, I think I could have ended up with better results.

I have no doubts that one day, the stars will aline for me, and I'll get some greats shots.
It's just that this shoot wasn't that day.

Enough complaining, I'm out of here.

Number 2 and 3 look nice. I don't the whites are blown there at all. But I feel your pain. Although herons and egrets aren't the only ones that find themselves in bad light for me. The last BIF looks very nice as well. I have nothing like this in my portfolio of pics.
