Finally...a BIF
:clap last week my friend Harry spent the entire day with me sharing his bottomless pit of photographic knowledge. I consider myself very lucky to have such a willing mentor! Many thanks again Harry for a great day! After we spent a few hours on software and post processing, we hit the wetlands. The winds were incredible and my attempt at a BIF should have been a piece of cake. As the birds flapped they didn't move due to the stong wind..aha! I thought..finally my chance to get one of these suckers in air! Oh well...to my utter dismay every attempt was a failure:cry . I was so frustrated because Harry makes it seem so easy...but in fact..it is not easy...it takes skill..hats off to you my friend...you do it so well!
The winds died down today so I had to make a trip to the W/L to try yet again to get a decent shot of a bif...many failed attempts today as I am still getting used to my camera and lens. This was about the best of 80 shots today...not too bad:rofl
Not perfect but he is flying! I used my 70-200 f2.8..I LOVE this lens!

Silly fish, that is a heron, not an egret. Not nearly as tasty
Not bad Trish, It's better than any BIF I have gotten this year... all attempts deleted...
You awakened Fish outta hibernation :lol He really does love egrets.....
As you point out, it ain't easy But it sure is rewarding I hope shooting with Harry has started you on that short road to bird addiction :lol4
Seriously Trish, you sound like you're enjoying yourself and that's the most important thing If you get some good shots too, so much the better.
Congrats and thanks for sharing,
Steve
Congrats on your first BIF. Thats always a big moment, heck even Fish stopped by.
I had a good time that day. You know how I hate to talk photography.
Next time you go out shooting bring Craig along and give him a machete. If there's any vegetation blocking your shot get him to start chopping it down.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
..... it becomes very adictive, Trish!
Sometimes I use a few BIF shots on an outing to get my timing and get into my "zone" for the rest of the day. Works for me.
Only problem for me is........
those overhead BIF images can be costly!!!
I've been shit on so many times, I'm now imune :
Your shot is very nice, Trish. Nice color and I like that the bird is stashed behind the weeds in the image.

Canon AE1 - it was my first "real camera"
Canon 20D - no more film!
