I recently returned from Guangzhou China. I spent 2 weeks there. It was an amazing place. I took tons of photos of course. Here are some of them. I visited Guangzhou in 1984 on a military visit but sadly we were under too much control to photograph much at all even though thats what we were there to do anyway.
Still..a culture shock for me & the chinese.

I was pretty sure that you can takes street pictures in China, especially to people. Seems to be ok.
