    Hi Chris..

    I am liking #1 and #3...

#1 stood out the most, that is a strange but awesome processing you did on it, they look like velvet or lamb's ear plant, other worldly, interesting and eye catching..

#3 - Well I just like the way that one looks... and the way it enters the frame ever so carefully and toward the top at an angle.. very nice photo..thumb.gif

I gotta vote for #1! I really like the processing on that one, hopefully once the contest ends, you'll share your methods! mwink.gif

I like #2, but a lot of the individual parts are sort of getting jumbled together... does the color version have more definition between the parts? (sorry to use a generic term "parts" I'm just not sure what to call the thread like pieces)

There's nothing wrong with #3 or 4, they're just not quite doing it for me in black and white. Not to be too harsh, but they're just sailboats at the moment. There's really nothing to truly set them apart from the field, so to speak. If they were in color with a nice golden sunset glow they would probably have more impact and appeal. They're nice shots, but I think you've got a better shot with #1 thumb.gif

Ditto on 1. I really like the 'feel' of the photo.

I guess I'm the odd one out-- I like #2. There's a subtle swirl created by those stalks of wheat that looks really nice to my eye. :D

#1 for me in a "Sunflowers can be disturbing" sort of way. They just look at you as they will kill you if you look away. Probably too much "Day of the Triffids" in my youth. Nice work. #2 needs a different crop. Gut feel is the lower part, trending on the right is wasted. I don't get anything from the sailboats.

    #1 for me with #2 a close 2nd!thumb.gif

Just a little nit: what would it look like if you masked out the 2 bees on the left and right?

All nice choices, but as most people have already said, #1 is the one for me too, however I feel like the contrast can be improved a little bit.

#1. And I agree with MIschswiss that it's slightly ominous somehow, but it is very VERY cool. Great shot.

I actually toned down the contrast on them from my original conversion, they really looked alien. The leaves are what surprised me because it did not show up in color. I can only attribute it to the polarizer it made the leave look unreal yes like velvet.
    Thank You

Looks like I'm against the grain (or rather with it rolleyes1.gif) in preferring #2 over #1. Something about the B&W conversion just doesn't click with me on #1. It just seems like the stalks are too distracting... glowing almost.

#2 is great in my opinion. The B&W really works quite well for the subject. Perhaps taking a levels layer to it to darken up the lines some would bring out the wheat a little more. It might not work, but it's got my vote either way.

Here is the shot in color taken with 17-55-f2 @55mm with circular polarizer. Just for the heck of it. I will probably use a shot I got today while working near Yosemite.Working on them.

Reworked The Murderous Sunflowers. You really got to keep an eye on the the ones that have not fully opened, they look like they could take a bite out of you.

Added a few more to the confusion. I am going to wear out my shutter or at least see if it will go the 150000 actuation like Nikon said if we keep up with these DSS

    #1 for me too.

I agree with Alan that additional contrast might give the photo more ummph (note the sophisticated terminology rolleyes1.gif - just my I'm-not-awake-yet word for "wow" factor) .

Sunflowers are a very dramatic flower so I think the picture can take it.

    Virginia

Oops, I see you are awake early too. Yes, the increased contrast adds.

Gorgeous set of photos. But I think you should stick with the sunflowers.

Thanks Virginia and everyone else for the excellent C&C. Yes the sunflowers are working I did remove the bees but I guess it did not save that way.
The leaves are really interesting. Well I will touch it up some more before posting.

#1 is "eye catching and really pulls you in"
#2 is a very nice conversion and I am big on metal and steel in B&W's

    So those are my picks..thumb.gif
