Ours ants are small at around 2 - 3mm. The advantage is, they don't bite 
So for scale against a pencil tip ...... complete with vignetting :wink
Closing into the head area
And head on, face to face. Cute really :wink
Then sneaking up alongside to catch the eye

Our ants are only as big as yours too, they're black but the sugar ants are sort of the colour of the ones you posted, however the black ones do bite, I know cause I make the mistake of touching the lock on the garage door all the time and those little black ones are using it as a pathway to who knows where
