This is the first set of many more to come from my Made In Thailand Boot Camp held in September 2009.

I have chosen one of my friends to be our photo model for this session. The basic idea of this set is to allow participants practise night portraits with multiple strobes lighting. I have chosen this location because not only it is one of the major monuments in Bangkok, it is also beautiful at night with its splendid illuminated suspension steel tensiles. Although all seems to be great that night, we did not get much shots done cos it started raining just when we were warmed up for some serious posing and shots. In the end, we all had to pack up and run for cover...

Have to apologize to the participants for not getting good shots that night... :(

Here are just 5 images to share.

Thank you for viewing my images. Comments are welcomed. We could have done more if not for the rain... What a waste... :(

Zeckson! You have beautiful model, the dress is right. For me the light is too hard and contrast too much with the night. Sometimes it wins. but not here - the model is touching (not sexual vampire:-) and I'd use more soft light. I also made such mistakes (IMHO) when I used 'adult' poses to very young, charming models.
    Thank you,

    Yuri

Hello Yuri. I totally agree with you about the light. Yeah, its time to use some soft boxes, more umbrellas and other light modifiers. Done these pictures way back in early September. I just bought a few light modifiers recently, should be using them soon. :)

Oh sorry... I thought you are able to read Chinese... The translation in hanyu pinyin is "xie xie ni de ping yu" or "Thank you for your comments". :)

All these images were done with the equipment listed below:
    1. Nikon D90
    2. AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G
    3. Tokina AT-X Pro 124 12-24mm f/4
    4. Nikon Speedlight SB-900
    5. Nikon Speedlight SB-800
    6. Light stand x 2
    7. Shoot through umbrella x 1

Most of the shots were done using slow shutter speeds of about 1/15 ~ 1/30, cannot remember (you can download the images and look at the EXIF data). I want to balance between flash and ambient. Flash mode is definitely using Slow/Rear Sync Flash. Flash power is as low as 1/64 ~ 1/128. ISO is pretty high as well, if I did not remember wrongly.

The lights are placed in such a way that the main light mounted with a shoot-through umbrella at a flash power of about 1/128 ~ 1/64. The backlight is on another light stand, bare unti, about 2 meters behind the subject and a low power between 1/128 ~ 1/64.

I agree with the shadows comments.

Seems to me a blurred moon takes away from your subject but the suspension wires don't (go figure).
