Yeah, that looks amazing for the money. I have a Dell laptop, similar processor, but only half that amount of RAM. It works fine for editing my RAW 5KMII images while on the road. I wouldn't want to use it for a day-to-day machine though. My laptop is running XP. Windows 7 is supposed to be very efficient, so you gain some there as well. I've kind of grown accustomed to wide-format screens, and this one isn't from the looks of it. Still, for a travel laptop for backing up your pics and editing a few shots on the road, it would do fine. Day-to-day machine, no. :nah

One thing you may want to check is what software you want to run on it, because it is 64bit so the software you will install will have to be 64 bit.

NO!

A 64 bit OS will run 32 bit apps just fine.

I have had instances where we had to get a 64 bit programs because the 32 bit program said it was incompatible.

I have not run into one 32 bit app that will not run on my Vista and now Win 7 64 bit machines.....including Photoshop. Nothing more needed to say.

The OP wants a Win 7 laptop...not Vista.

Picked up the named piece from Staples yesterday. Smooth..Like Win7 too!

Links Wireless with ease to my Netgear with a 32 bit Vista and a 64 bit Vista Sharing.

Make and model
HP Pavilion dv4-2170us 14.1" Laptop, but be aware that many models are specific to one chain store, so you may not find this exact model anywhere else. But someone else may have essentially the same machine with a different model number.

Hello newsky,
Have you checked compatibility?
Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)

There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:

In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.
