44 - C&C on a couple of ideas please

Do any of these work? Where can I improve?



I had a chance to pick up my camera at last. The colorful silhouettes were taken in our 3D immersion virtual environment. It's a cubre that runs 3D programming for teaching and research. I had them run the mono version of a teaching module instead of the 3D version so that I could get clean images. What do you think?

EDIT: I took your suggestions and cropped, masked (a new tool for me) and brightened. I llike it better. Thanks for the suggestions. What do you think?


I actually have time to wander around with my camera this weekend, so would love some input. I found shooting silhouettes harder than I thought they would be!

    I also like the first two. The goggles add a nice touch to the shots.

    Yeah, the first two are very good. One thing I would be tempted to do, though, is completely black out the silhouetted figures, either by raising the black level, boosting the contrast, or using a layer mask. I find it kind of distracting that I can still see details on their clothing.

    I prefer #1 and #6 although wonder if #6 could become more defined (sorry - layman's terms - I've not idea how to do this!). Have you thought about cropping the top off #1 so that the colours reach the top of the frame? I wonder if this will create more of an impact...?
    More practice needed but learning all the time!:rofl

    I like #3 and #4, more #4 but I'm now sure if this image can be considered a silhouette or not...headscratch.gif

    Thanks for the feedback. I edited #1 using your suggestions. It made ofr a stronger image...one I like better than the original.

    I hadn't used layer masks before....so thanks for pushing me to pick up a new tool.

    The edited image is now shown as #3. If you could give me feedback, I'd appreciate it.

    #3 has real impact IMO. They're all really striking pictures clap.gif

    #3 is a definite improvement, but I still see some dark gray areas on the right-hand figure near waist level. Also, the silhouettes are too sharp-edged for my taste. I usually apply a bit of Gaussian blur to the layer mask to soften it a bit.
