Yeah, I made the leap to a Mark IV

Hi, A few weeks ago I posted here trying to decide on my next camera. Ziggy said for the type of shooting I do a Mark Iv would be my best choice. Could not see how that was possible but things just came together.
I picked up my camera today, I'm just in bliss. Here are some samples taken 5 minutes after opening the box, jpeg not even sure how to AF it yet.
The first one is 12800, the camera is set to Auto Iso by default.

Last one, my house bunny Marshmellow in her playpen iso 5000 no light .

All these photos taken with Tamron 28-75 f2.8 non L glass. Can't wait to see what my 70-200 2.8 is or 50 f1.4 do with this baby. I'm in love.

Thanks Ziggy for nudging me in this direction, it is the perfect blend of speed and acuracy for me. This will solve those dimly lit horse arena issues, it makes me fearless:ivar:ivar:ivar

I think I will be renting the 24-105 for a daylight horse inspection, it is the right focal length so I don't have to lug two cameras.

Tried the video, it was fun but will not replace my little Pansonics for horse shows. It's a different kind of video.

I'm worn out from the excitement.

congrats on a great camera. i struggled with the decision the same camera--finally took the plunge. don't know why I waited so long. I like the way you displayed some test shots-best of luck with a great camera

Stephen,

This is my first EOS 1 body, I rented the Mark 3 in June and fell in love. This body has it all and will be my last major camera purchase for quite some time. I shoot a lot of fast equestrian sports so speed and AF are really important. But I wanted a good portrait body and low ISO ability is a treat. Figuring out the AF system in CF is challenging but the learning process is fun.

I am on the verge of taking the same plunge - and for the same reason. Those horse show arenas are a lighting nightmare. I have a great lens (well, more than one) to use for shows - the 70-200 f/2.8 IS BUT without the capability to take advantage of its abilities. My 40D is pretty good - but the 1DMkIV - yum! Soon (I hope). Let us know how the 24-105 works in the horse world (as opposed to weddings where I'm told it excels).

I have the 70-200 2.8 IS too but I'm having trouble with the weight of it combined with a heavy body like the 50D plus battery pack, and now the Mark IV. I decided to take the plunge with the 24-104, I have a breed inspection August 2 so I'll let you know how the focal length works.
I actually got the 70-200 f4 IS too, I loved that lens after renting it, the image quality is stunning, and it feels like a feather compared to the F2.8. The thing is with the Mark IV is it makes taking high ISO images a breeze, really it is going to make how and where I take photos a new experience. If you can buy one, take the plunge you wont' regret it.

The weight is a killer. My back and arms (arthritic) show the strain. I finally got a monopod to take the weight of the lens for me.

Just wanted to chip in and say congrats. Bought a MKIV a few months ago now, and it really is superb. So customisable for so many situations.
In the UK a few years ago Honda cars made a superb advert with tha catchline "Isn't it great when things just work?" I rest my case M'Lud!
