DSS 58 - Options

It was a busy week. Work was intense, so I just got out shooting this weekend.

What do you think? Do any of these work for the theme? Any suggestions?

#3 Watching the Master

#4 Uh Oh!

#5 It's Only a Flesh Wound

#6 Rough Landing

out of all of this set I really like #4 and 6. 4 he really looks like he's about to bite it, but 1-3 could just be stunts. 6 I like how the guy is sideways and sending up dust, but the composition is more about the parachute than the landing.

I like the last one too and I like the quote above as a possible title.

Not sure about that animal shot--looks awful, yet reminds me of a fuzzy slipper I used to wear as a child

#5 and #6 fit to the theme I think, but I like more #6

For the first 3, I was going for "I am a master". But maybe they are not really expressing that, either.

5 is definitely a squirrel's head. It may be the one I saw foraging within a foot of my lazing cats last week. He got away with it that time, but may have tried it again. There may be too much ewwww factor for this one to be successful.

Here is a closer crop on #6. Does this work better?

I like the crop better! It's a big crop, and a little grainy as a result, but you can see the action a LOT better! and... Ouch!

I like #8's impact, but I think the blacks could stand to be pulled back a bit... just enough to show a little more tonal variation, but keep it punchy like it is. Also the crop on 8a is better.

The #9 composition is much more interesting/better. It fits the character. Maybe try getting the eyes evenly exposed... he looks like he has a black eye (not from lighting) lol

To be honest, I personally don't quite understand how this nice portrait can be related to the theme of the contest...

Hard to chose. Regarding theme, the parachute is more on target. Of the last concept, I like #8 the most... it is definitely the most punchy of the lot, and I actually like the wider crop... the dark leaves and branches add great contrast to the subject, and all seem to direct the viewer to him. I do not mind the loss of detail in the shadows in this case... the harshness fits the theme better.

I thing that the parachute fits better too.
