Lewis Woodpecker

Here is a Lewis's Woodpecker that was taken in the Black Hills just outside of Rapid City South Dakota.

    I agree but I had never seen one of these before and did not get any good shots. I thought people would like to see a different bird.

    So that's what one looks like. Nice shot.
    My birding buddy, that's been birdin' for over 62 years, recalls he got a call
    in 2001 that one was spotted across the state. They jumped in the
    car and after a five hour drive watched it for thirty minutes then went to
    lunch and drove back home. Only the 3rd state record.

    Glad you liked it. That sounds exactly like me. We drive all over every week. A couple hundred miles is nothing in a state like Wyoming.
