    Rutt,

    You lost me on this one. It's dark, lacks a subject, as far as I can see. I don't get it.

    Nobody could question its darkness. The subject is powerful for me, but perhaps it's too personal. I have very strong associations with this particular boat.

    This looks like one of those 'you had to have been there' atmosphere shots. I can imagine this shot looking better printed.

    Thank you very much. With shots like this, honest criticism is really important. It's hard for me to know if they are just too personal or not.

    Apparently not. It seems to have that "only a mother could love" thing going on.

    Thanks very much for your frank criticism. It's just as useful to know when others don't see it as when they do, especially when trying out a stretch shot like this one.

    Hi Rutt,
    I too am lost with this image as it stands. What I do see lies in the portal and the steps. I really like the lighting and think the comp could work with a tighter crop on that area. As for emotion, it's all in you.

    So, are you going to tell us the meaning behind the photo. What is it that you see (some psycho analysis).

    I think its a great subject however i find the light from the left & right distracting to the shot. Rutt have you considered cropping just the centre of the porthole & stairs ?

    I think gus is onto something here - the left one third of the image is non-essential and the right 1/4 or so also is irrelevent. The real image is the porthole and the light on the stairs - Just a little more light on the stairs ( not too much ) and this might be more interesting.
