  Agreed, wouldn't fancy being so close, I always expect them to suddenly fly at your face when you're close! I've seen a few of them around looking for nests I assume! I think the nice weather in the UK at the moment has brought them out!

  It's instinctive to duck whatever flies directly at you, but with a wasp, there's usually an expletive to match!!!

  True! I don't know if it is just me either but they seem to fly at me much more than in any other direction!
