If you look in long-established flowerpots, you may find some Marchantia, the palm tree-like liverwort.

I couldn't work out if the dark borders were the lichens or cracks in the brick.

For what it is worth, I have seen many a crumbling brick in my lifetime but never one with so many "cracks".
