It took a day longer to come up with an new Mini. This time I would like to see some pictures of events:

  • Parades
  • Concerts
  • Carnival
  • Sports
  • ...

It does'nt matter if the events are big or small. As long as there is something going on.

I would like to close this Mini on Sunday 15 Dec 2024 (12pm EST)

The rules can be found here here: https://dgrin.com/discussion/248032/mini-challenge-un-official-rules#latest.

Some examples:

Kindercarnaval 2024

Rupelmonde - Schellekes Kermis 2022

Ooo this is a challenge for me! I rarely photograph people or people-related stuff. Still... I may have some things. Dunno if they'll win awards, but it's the thought that counts :D . Stay tuned!

I've picked out 30 possible pictures so I am going to put 3 in and I may change them. I have a lot of photos of parades for instance. But here are the preliminary picks - all of these are pre-digital

    1) Picnic on the beach in California by the local Antique Auto Club (dressed according to the age of their cars in some cases) My two girls are on the edge of the blanket in the foreground

    2) Halloween costume parade at a school in Key West - none of these children are mine

    3) BBQ in New England in the 70s

Great topic! I actually have a lot to choose from for this one, which makes it a tougher choice, I think. For the past 15 years, I have been photographing the marching season of our local high school band. I started when my daughter was a band member, and they asked me to keep taking pictures for them after my daughter graduated. I loved doing it, so I kept right on. I have too many marching contests, parades, and football game performances to choose from. I may end up changing my mind on my entries more than once.

    1. UIL Area D Marching Contest 2023 -- I like this one because the front scrim panel and the color guard flag perfectly frames the soloist.

    2. High School Jazz Band Concert

    3. Laying of the Wreaths -- every year on the day after Thanksgiving, volunteers gather at our local veteran's cemetery to place wreaths on all the grave markers. It's really beautiful when all the wreaths are there. For several years when my daughter was in high school, groups of students would volunteer and I took photos.

This one is not for judging, but I made this collage composite of scenes from one year's wreath laying event.

It doesn't have to be people. Cars, boats, trains, aircraft,... are also possible, as long they are at an event.

Good topic! Here are my entries:

    1) Albuquerque Balloon Festival - before all balloons are launched.. This is probably about 1/2 of the balloons. Dawn Patrol starts at 4am when crews set up balloons and test firing. Dawn Patrol is beautiful, but difficult to photograph when you keep getting excited with each firing test!

    2) Cool Country Equine Drill Team at Regionals, at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. . Team is from Cool, Ca.

    3) The Redding Kool April Nites Car show kickoff. This is the Cruise night before the car show.. Redding closes off this main drag and all four lanes are used for the huge amount of the car entries. I was ale to find a spot in the middle of the road next to a tree to get shots. The same spot was used for the next two years until the police politely told me to get my butt out of there and back to the side. Thus ending my fun on Friday night cruises.

And not an entry, but this is a Dawn Patrol test firing. When you get many of the balloons firing when it is dark, it is a wonder to see.

This is really not my type of photography, but I found one (so far) that may work.
    1) Celebrating the weekend

Every Friday night the Hilton Hawaiian Village has a fireworks show over the lagoon. My balcony just happened to have a view.

I'll keep looking for more pictures that might work for this challenge. It's a great theme, just not my thing. Maybe I need to branch out. :) In any case I will enjoy seeing everyone's entries.

Most of the events I photograph include family or friends who may not want their photos shared). But here are a few photos of public events that I can share.

    1) Fourth of July Parade in 1994 (Illinois, USA)
(I shot this photo with black and white film and scanned it later.)

    2) Rice Festival Parade in France

    3) Music at the Rice Festival in France
