Haven't posted in awhile due to travelling for the holidays and school starting back up, but I've had a few really fun shoots and wanted to share a few photos (and near misses).

My Dad finally upgraded from his precious sony and has moved into the DSLR world!:uhoh Shooting together has been good times for sure:thumb

Here's a few from a recent trip of ours to La Jolla cove

53684895-L.jpg

great place to shoot pelis--especially this time of year as they are sporting their breeding plumage.

Still trying to do the work out the anatomy on this one:dunno

The local seals always come through with a show

53685026-L.jpg

53685001-L.jpg

53684914-L.jpg

Not to be outdone, the cormorants gave a sparring demonstration

53684773-L.jpg

53684766-L.jpg

And a BCNH for the night heron groupies

53684753-L.jpg

And finally, a few of my nemesis, the kingfisher, as he continues to pwn me. I had him zeroed in on Sat--Frontlit, right in his hunting zone, and looking pretty comfy with my slow approach. He tried to wait me out for a good half hour on his perch to no avail.

At the blink of an eye he took off and flanked me showing only his backlit silhouette. Touche dear KF...well played:rolleyes

It's good to be back and thanks for the look! All I have to do now is convince my Dad to post a few...in unrelated news, I just read an article detailing the increase in photo-posting-shyness with advanced age in older gentlemen with the last name of Lapoint:dunno

Nice series of shots, Jeff. I'm still looking for a red throated pelican. I've seen thousands of pelicans...but never captured one like that yet. :cry

headscratch.gifne_nau.gifheadscratch.gifne_nau.gifheadscratch.gif I have them in my backyard. We've got both brown & white 'cans in the area. I've just NEVER seen the red coloring of the adult birds. I've seen thousands of pelicans...and shot as many. Maybe I'll take some spray paint with me next time. Blue would be nice , also. rolleyes1.gif

Any particular time for these mating/breeding colors?? (months of the year) ? I still can't believe I've never run into one of these in person.headscratch.gifumph.gif

I think all were shot with canon 400mm 5.6 and 1.4x TC. The combo is pretty much glued to the front of my camera...

I was under the impression that this was the time of year for the breeding plumage...read it somewhere but I can't remember the exact source...maybe the Art Morris book?
