Smugmug Slow - Rochester, NY/ New York, NY

Hello,

I've experienced extremely slow response times from smugmug in the past month'ish. I was hoping it was a temporary issue that would be resolved, but it still happens intermittently.

Now, for instance, it is taking between 10-15 second to load "next photo".

I have experienced this both in NYC and in ROchester, NY (Western NY.)

I chose smugmug for their customizable interface and their speed. Speed being a HUGE factor... otherwise I would've stayed with my own gallery system. I'm displaying pieces of my portfolio on there, and it really won't help me land a job if the guy stops looking after 2 photos because its taking too long.

I do enjoy smugmug very much other than these slow downs.

Thanks,
Robert

Right now, this moment, 330pm Thursday, you're probably experience a bit of slowness while we recache everything after just updating the software.

As to the prior month - well that could be a different story, and we'd like to help troubleshoot.

Can you do a traceroute from you to www.smugmug.com and report the results here? Browser, connection type, and ISP name will all be helpful, too.

    Hey Andy,

Thanks for the response. I can't say that the other times I've experienced the slowdown weren't around the same times in the past month or so, so maybe I've just caught the caching a couple times. When is that typically done?

Anyway, I'm on a Mac... and I've tested both Safari and Firefox on it. It was really speedy last night, but dog slow right now.

    Hi Bob,

I'll ask Wireless to check into it. But yeah, right now, it's slow - we just updated the site, so it's caching things. Usually this is done during scheduled maintenance window (while you and I are sleeping - I'm in NY too)..

I was wondering the asme thing too. SM is normally fast. Right now I was trying to pull up some galleries and I thought my modem was offline. I'll hang tight.

    Ok thanks.

Sure I have no problem with SM being slow during a scheduled maintenance period. I just thought that was late tonight, not this afternoon. Sent a prospective employer a link to some of my work on there a little earlier. :uhoh :uhoh

    Oh well.

    Thanks for the prompt response,
    Bob

Yep. By the time I wrote my last post and went back to my photos it's all back up to speed for me too. Now the forum is a little slow.... :|
