No...dont tell me to get a canon 10-22. Ive had one & dont want it again & if you want to know why the use the search function.

I dont want a sigma zoom...period.

I want a prime lens (manual is def fine with me) that i can somehow mount to EFS & is equiv to 10 to 12 mm on the EFS. I saw a prime distagon the other day in a 2nd hand shop for $500 USD but it was about 22 or 24 mm from memory.

Anyone know how i go about this ?

    Look around for:

    Olympus Zuiko 21mm f/3.5
    Zeiss Distagon 18mm f/4

    Both are outstanding. Here's more:

Once you find one, you get the adapter from here: www.cameraquest.com

And then you focus manually and stop down to your desired aperture.

AFAIK, there are no other choices, the Canon, the Sigma 12-24 popeye. Well, there is a Zeiss 15 but you'd need to sell a kidney.

Or just sell your shiny new 30D and upgrade to the 5D... opens up the options somewhat.

I agree too, sell that 30D and get a 5D! Heck I'll pay you 2 times what you paid for the 30D. You can double your money! rolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gif

    All off topic thanks.

If i wanted a 5D then i would own one. Most of my shooting is sports & distance thus i love the crop factor.

Now is there any way of having a 10 to 12mm prime for the 30D ?

    Gus,

you may want to consider the 8mm Peleng, it is an awesome lens, it is a fisheye though, so you'll need to do some post work, but it is well worth it! I bought mine for €169,-

    Cheers and good luck!

8mm/4.0 circular or 15mm/2.8 rectangular fisheye?!

But then when you correct these fisheyes you'll
loose quite abit of contrast and sharpness. So its
not worth it. Go 5D or buy a 200$ wide angle adapter
for better quality as a corrected fisheye.

the Nikkor 10.5mm DX is an awesome lens.

    51476040-S.jpg

why do you hate Sigma's so much, btw? I've taken a ton of fantastic photos with my Sigma zooms. Aside from my 70-200VR, the Sigma 18-50/2.8 and 100-300/4 (both top shelf EX models, but far le$$ than L or Nikkor AF-S glass) were the best lenses I've ever owned. ne_nau.gif

    they have two offerings,
    diagonal fish:

    circular fish:

Hope you didn't take my reply the wrong way Gus.

After reading the OT discourse and feeling a certain frustration, I figured you may as well get it straight.

I searched for one myself before, and couldn't find *anybody* who made a 'normal' 10mm-12mm prime in a Canon mount.

It is my understanding that you are not looking for a fisheye, so I didn't bother mentioning them.

The Canon 14mm f/2.8L is the widest prime I know of in a Canon mount at the moment.

You asked for 10mm-12mm, I've never seen one.
If every keystroke was a shutter press I'd be a pro by now...

    Here's a related discussion...
    over at FM:

    http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/477372

Discussing Canon, Tamron, and Sigma 14mm lenses. Has a bunch of example shots that look interesting.

Here's another thought-you said you want to keep the APS-C for "sports" etc. so the 5D is a no-go. But have you considered the
    1D MkII? A 14mm mounted on a 1D gets you 18mm. That's pretty darn wide...and the 1D will *smoke* the 30D for sports.

    Just a thought...

    A linkie for Gus

EDIT: another on the peleng 8mm for mounting to Canon. Make sure you read all three pages of the review, including the de-fishing parts. Note: The newest version of the PTLens plug-in easily supports this lens, correcting for all sorts of fishy problems.
