I'm going to guess you're not doing "humble"!!! This really rocks! I can't decide which one I like best....I think they both work extremely well. I'm jealous...I went out on my lunch hour and tried some architecture...a really huge church. Just couldn't capture it. Best of luck....I think it will make a great entry! :saurora

I prefer the color version. The gold (?) plated crown and horses enhance the 'stately' tone.

Definitely stately!! Both versions work really well. I agree about the golden horses but I really love the b&w and the interest it adds to the sky. Color? B&W? ne_nau.gif At this moment, I would choose the ... b&w! It is understatedly stately. wings.gif

IMHO, color works better, for me that is.
Mebbe BW the rest and leave the gold (both on horses and the top ball)? Just an idea headscratch.gif

Impressive building, and nice shot of it. I like the selected gold version the best too.

    What about a wider view.

Here's my line of thought: landscape ratio, being "wide", tends to make everything look wider, and, relatively speaking, lower. With your going for dominating the viewer, the shot needs to make as tall impression as possible. Hence, the landscape is your foe, and portrait is your friend.

I would, however, try square. It creates the biggest image allowed (800x800, hence 100% usage of the area allowed) and may also let you to show some lower parts of the capitol, thus increasing the dominating effect.

as I saw it, I was gonna suggest selective coloring, but clearyl I'm late. THe only thing I can add is maybe only color the horses. I think 2 colored points distracts a little bit. But just an awesome image. Great job.

The wide angle b&w does it for me. Gorgeous shot.

For now the selective color shot is in the challenge.
Who knows, maybe I'll find something better.

    wow
I agree w/ Virginia...the landscape image, for sure. The wide angle is unexpected, and I like the drama of seeing the entire building. I also like seeing more of the clouds. A powerful image.

For the challenge, I think the selective or the color speak the loudest....but I agree w/Virginia...the black and white is my favorite. :saurora

It's a tough choice. I'm very partial in this, I like them all. :D

Just so ya know, this is a very small part of the building.

Thanks Nikolai, I know all about the frames and watermarks and copywrite labels.
This is a very old pic just to show the real size of the building.

    Personally
I love the landscape view...it's bigger, badder, up front, and in your face....Stately is written all over it. I did like the selective color as well along with the contrast you pulled out of the sky. Just for the heck of it...color the horses on this version. I like them all of course as they all work well....this one as a wider version is better to my eye.

    #2. thumb.gif
I'd like to see it with some gold on the horses (not as bright as in #4 thoughdeal.gif ), but it's only because I'm too darn curious... rolleyes1.gif

That one's going to have to stay in B&W, I didn't save it as a PS file, only as a JPG.
Besides that, I worked hard at getting that sheen on the horses in that shot.

I toned down the gold a bit in #4.

Oh, its getting harder, Dave. I like ##2 and 3 and I can't decide which I like best. I don't find the selective color versions nearly as appealing. They detract from the neat sky and the majesty of the whole (or so much of the whole as we can see). But that is definitely just one woman's opinion and, not only am I not a judge, I don't have a good track record figuring out what the judges will like. rolleyes1.gif

Hmmm. #2 gets my vote - for the moment at least. thumb.gif

Of the last batch, #2 absolutely. It's outstanding. I'm not a big fan of the selective color version.
