Could it be traffic? I have over 20,000 clicks this month, but I know that it was only around 15000 on Sunday night. Even so it is very slow...especislly 2 or 3 of the latest galleries.

Your site seemed quick to me...

Click here and test your internet speed.
    http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Could just be a node (??) is down and you are being re-routed and it's taking longer. (excuse my terms, they could be wrong) But it's the idea behind it.

See what your results are. If with comcast, it seems that with a lot of dl'ng they have started "throttling" traffic.

Same here. Other sites I'm visiting (off smug) are loading very quickly, but my site is just dragging! I was worried I'd messed something up when I was customizing my site this week, but if I'm not the only one it must be something else.

Great site, by the way!! :D

I can't stand this!! I'm having the same problem! I'm not sure if it's on smugmug's end, or my ISP (comcast).

I just ran that speed test:

    Download: 4492kbps
    Upload: 346
    Comcast outside of Boston, MA.

What is going on?! I emailed help@smugmug today about a watermarking question and speed. They only responded concerning the watermarking section of my email!

If I can't stand waiting for this to load, there's no way customers will wait.

Smugmug, please give us an explanation on this!

    I sooooooooooooo jealous.... eek7.gif

Let me rephrase the throttling thru Comcast... read more into it. It's being throttled when dl'ng with BitTorrent.

The guy that did the test about Comcast "throttling" is from the Boston area.

Okay, so does this mean that smugmug just won't function properly in the Boston area through comcast? This is annoying.

We don't have much information yet on what's going on, but that is not the case (or at least not in the long run). We are having some site problems, possibly from the various changes we have made over the last couple of days.

Sorry! More info when we have it.

    Strange.

'tracert' or 'ping' from work (Chelmsford, Kronos Inc) reports normal results (no time outs). 'tracert' from home (Melrose) reports only timeouts. And this goes for every 'tracert' and 'ping'. It doesn't matter which website I 'tracert' or 'ping' from home, it always reports timeouts... headscratch.gif ... maybe comcast or some of my network/firewall-settings block outgoing tracerts or pings?

However, all web-access from both home and work goes very fast, except for smugmug.com.

I was planning on opening up another gallery tonight, but I'm afraid of slow speeds for viewers.

Glad to hear smugmug's at least working on it! clap.gif

Something's up. I swung by here to see if anyone else is having issues...apparently so. I'm in SoCal and access to my site is excruciatingly slow. To the point that it's not functioning correctly--I'm trying to run some zoom thumbs. Well, the lag has killed the BZT tool, and even the old one-at-a-time tool is not responsive. Had to return the gallery to it's online state & I'll have to try next week (out of town as of tomorrow morning). gerg.gif

    Even dgrin is barely responding...

ah..now I can see Sheaf's post. I guess it will be all better by the time I'm back.

no, comcast only throttles (supposably) when dl'ng thru bittorrent. I have no idea about why smugmug is slow for some of you.headscratch.gif

I use cox in Baton Rouge Louisiana. My DL speed was 7156/upload558 to Ney York. It is not my connection. I have a potential client wanting me to do a short notice wedding in 3 weeks, and she cannot even view my portfolio. Thank goodness I didn't want to upload new galleries. It is ridiculous.......especially when we could have been sent aq notice that SM was experiencing problems and that thet were working on it.

Does it have to do with the new sizes changover? the XL thingy?

Now the response from smugmug.com is very fast...
but i get nothing: empty pages, crossed-out images (e.g. when i go to my blog that shows some pics from my site at smugmug).

I just checked: My homepage has this text on top in red, inside a red-bordered rectangle:
"We're having some temporary difficulties. We expect service to resume shortly. Sorry!"
I can't grasp the notion of time.

Very slow on my site as well. Just started this evening. At first the page would clock and then finally bring up the Smugmug home page. They have a notification on-line as of now that a fix is in the works.

    Slow?
They are working hard at rectifying this I'm sure! They have always been swift to fix what's broken.

The SLOW down has not just been tonight. The last two or three nights it's been painfully slow for me to customize my site. I was getting extremely frustrated by tonight... I knew something had to be wrong!

Be patient, they'll get it done.

No it actually means that there is a connectivity issue from you to us. Let's diagnose it.

Please write our help desk, and send us results of a traceroute from you to us.

Try these instructions to run a traceroute on a PC:
    http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2959046
That will help us see if and where any problems may be.

To run a traceroute on a Mac, follow the instructions here:
    http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/3073291
Copy and paste the results to us in an email.

I understand that technical difficulties do occur and that this problem is being worked on right now... I have been very impressed with smugmug thus far, but this is unacceptable.

Edit: Trace Results Sent. Is that mac explanation gallery out of order?

    I appreciate the help.

Nate, we're very sorry for the troubles. The site right now is / should be back to normal. We're sorry that it happened, we don't like it any more than you do, trust me.

I'd knew it would get fixed soon. Smuggy's the best. And for those that may have thought this was the worse thing that could happen... Then you've never experienced moving to a new house in the same town and waiting............ waiting.......... waiting............. waiting............ for the cable company to come over and get you online, while your clients are emailing you why their website hasn't been updated in the past week.

I sent my trace results. However right before I did it my site was working normal and there was a message banner saying that the site was experiencing difficulties. I am glad that my customers will at least see the banner and come back later, I just hope the problem is resolved later.
