Forum Suggestion

Hi Gang,

When I'm following a thread, it makes moore sense to have the newest posts first because I've already read the older ones.

But, When I'm reading a thread for the first time, it makes more sense to have the oldest, or original, post first so I can start from the beginning.

My suggestion is to have a button or drop down menu on the top of each thread page so we can change the order "on the fly".

Maybe it can be added to a master wish list?

Thanks.

Hi Chuck, forum functionality such as you suggest is largely out of Dgrin's hands. The forum software (essentially the framework of how everything works) we use is vBulletin and I have never seen an on-the-fly button like that on any other vB based forum.

Threads can be sorted as such, but not posts within a thread, that is set behind the scenes, forum-wide.

But I could be wrong, the nerdier nerds will chime in later, I'm sure.

Take a lookat You! in the bar above. Then click Edit Options and scroll
down to Thread Display Options and look at the drop selection next to
    Thread Display Mode
. I see linear -oldest first and linear - newest first.
    That what you looking for?

    Thanks Allen
The control panel lets you set the order globally but I was looking for a way to do it instantly with a single click on a thread by thread basis.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, this is out of our control as we just use what we can get from VB. Maybe in a future version?

Does the "View First Unread" button in the upper left (under You!) typically meet your need? I use it all the time. Plus if you do a New Stuff find and click (mouse button no shutter) on the arrow to the left of the Topic Title you can go straight to the new posts.

I like the default display, and if I want to see the newest post, I just hit the End key and boom, I'm there.

(Laptop users may need to also press a function key to enable the End key.)

I also like it like that, and if I scroll through from the beginning, you can see what other folks have said, in the order that they were said.
