Re: Nikon Lens - VR or Not VR
I would not get a lens of this focal range without shake compensation I've tested several of my Canon lenses (17-55mm f/2.8 IS, 70-200mm f/4L IS and 300mm f/4L IS) with IS on and IS off. There is definitely an advantage to the IS capability but, I cannot really (nor do I care to) quantify it by number of f/stops. I would… -
Re: Photo scanning workflow
Howdy. I'm in the middle of the same process. I have a new Smug Mug site and lots of old 25mm slides. Quite a few of my own, plus 22 slide carousels (100 slides per) of family photos I'm doing for my wife's family estate. BinaryFix gave a great response, but I thought I would go ahead and share my workflow. I figured this… -
Metadata help
To All- I am working a complex investigation that includes 30 digital photos. Embeded at the end of these images is some metadata that could be important. Any help is greatly appreciated. The Surrounding Beauty, Switzerland
As I am writing this it is 5:04am. I have been at the airport since 9am yesterday and I wont be leaving for another 5 hours. Since there is free internet at a booth for Flyaboo Airlines I am using it...standing. It has been a whirlwind of train, car and climbing through the last week and spending infinite hours in an… -
Re: LPS20 - Unofficial Feedback Thread
71: I think I can speak technically on this one. Besides the subject and composition, you need to decide what you are doing. Are you trying to use the blur caused by low shutter speed to say something, or are you going to have a focused image say something? You are right in the middle here. If you are trying to use the… -
Re: >>> LPS#13 Feedback Thread
71 - hawkeye978 - Gone But Not Forgotten I like the contrast you have here of the cut branch and the live leaf shadow, and it works well with the title. The concept is good, but the execution is not working well for me. It might be the contrast is too high. It also seems like the composition is too cramped. You might not… -
Re: >DSS #7 (Communication - B&W): Feedback Thread
Finishing up the feedback #61 - bsharp - Back Off! This was another one I had a hard time cutting. Great for the theme, and the black and white works well, it just came down to a less-than-desirable crop. Cropping some off the bottom and left would have led to a stronger composition. #62 - Jzazzi - Lack Of I spent a while… -
Re: >>> DSS Challenge #5 (Primary or Pastel): Feedback Thread
Page 8... 71 - overparduffer - "Childs Play" - Welcome to the contests! To answer your question, you are in fact doing it right! Composition wise it is a fairly simple set up, nothing wrong with that. I see that the red duck is offset from the other two. That breaks things up a bit, which can be a positive thing, but in… -
>>> LPS#4 Feedback Thread
LPS#4 was a very enjoyable round to judge. A lot of creativity was evident. My compliments to all who entered. And now we open it up for some feedback that may help some out there. Here are my thoughts as I looked through them. Post# - Photog - Title 3 - denika - Porcelain Romp The framing and color seem at odds with what…
