Re: A day in the life of dgrin! - the Big Reveal!...#2
Autumn leaves, archery, geese and snooker. I had a wonderful plan all laid out for Shootin' Saturday. First problem was I outdid meself in the wake up late part. I woke up around 10 am, ate and fell asleep again. This caused some worries along the lines of getting shoot everything and caused some over hurriedness in the… -
Re: Home studio
I would buy one studio flash with a nice softbox for it at least 24 x 36 inches, and a reflector for the opposite side, my goal being able to recreate nice soft north window light, ala Rembrantdt. But, if your kids are like mine, they will have little patience sitting around waiting for dad to shoot a picture. For… -
Re: Dance Studio pictures
I have got my printing costs Ridiculously low. I recently bought a bunch of 36" wide roll paper. I have made my own wide format cutter as an AO size is is min $400 and I'm cutting that into strips of the sizes I want ( 7" A4, and 12" for package prints) then trimming them to final Size on a smaller trimmer. Basically the… -
Re: Assistant with Flash and Softbox
Yeah... the flash holding assistant is getting to be a lost technique but it is still done. Less often done with manual strobes and more often with ETTL these days. the fact that she is primarily a studio shooter is very telling here as this is a similar technique to studio photography. Back in the day, when you were… -
Re: Do Videos Count in the GB Uploaded Stats?
Cool, my confusion was helped when I checked the details link, it doesn't have a running total and I was just pretty sure that it 'stuck' at 85.01 before and after I uploaded 4 vids around ~50mn-70mb each. It's totally trivial, just had me curious and was one of those "wait a minute I think it said the same thing… -
Re: New Smugmug Alternatives - a brief look
Ferguson, thanks for the comparison shopping rundown. Something I felt I should have done before joining here but was too burned out (see below) and after some research just went with Smugmug based on the few options I really need. I'm brand new here but definitely not a newbie. I've been a graphic designer/front end web… -
Lassen Volcanic National Park
A group of folks I ride motorcycles with suggested a weekend camping trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The park is about 5.5 hours North East of home. We drove :lol3 Our first real stop of the trip was in the town of Winters. It's just off of I-5 and aside from gas, not much happens here. That's not entirely true as… -
Re: macro
Essentially correct. As John said, DX lenses are optimized for DX bodies, meaning the image circle they project is large enough to cover a DX sensor but not necessarily large enough to cover FX. Some DX lenses may work (usually with vignetting) on FX sensors, but if they do it's just a bonus. FX lenses will work on DX… -
Re: Seeking Comments & Criticism
First - as has been said, I think you have every right to be quite happy and proud of these photos. I KNOW the B&G will be quite pleased. A general comment - watch your composition. There are a large number of "bulls-eyed" shots in these sets. Here's a blow-by-blow:* Beautiful exposure and good focus. Probably have way too… -
Re: Selling pics on CDs...pros/cons and why is this )(*&O&* me off so much this morning!!
I've been in the game for a few years and exclusively started out with on line sales. Then I slowly started doing "CD" shoots and my business has taken off with the increase in these shoots. I just did a 4 team T&I shoot with a CD of each team with action shots. I would not have gotten the one without the other. I made…
