Re: Traveling photogs: advice on finding plane tickets
Good news! I found a ticket for a great price. I figured I'd post what I did to find the best prices: I first went through with Kayak, to see how much tickets were going for at the desired time I wanted to get there. I also checked how much a flight would cost six weeks ahead of time (which generally has the best rates).… -
Re: A "Wow" moment, but why?
First off, these are not stellar pictures. They came from my culled images and have had no post done on them. In a nutshell, I have generally always shot aperture mode allowing for me to select DOF and let the camera do the rest. It's sort of easy that way. But I recall seeing a lot of exif info that showed manual mode on… -
Re: Transitioning from RAW to JPEG?
You process sounds a lot like mine, although for when I am shooting for the fun of it or to learn my composition chops. Usually in those cases I will keep a select few, maybe 20-40% of the shots. For the motorcycle races, I am usually doing 2,000-3,000 shots per day, or maybe 6-7k shots per weekend. I did over 10k on a… -
Re: About to Go Insane. (I Need Your Advice.)
I'd be very curious what particular camera you were using and what ISO settings you were using. Also, what the typical shutter speed for your blurry images. (I.E., is the blur from lack of focus, or from too slow a shutter speed?) Chances are good that it is a combination. Low-light doesn't offer a lot for the camera to… -
Re: PC / Mac
I switched to my first mac back in 97. I have no desire to return to a PC. They make me ill to look at. (I did see a hack to make XP look like OS X, that might work ). I realize I may not get the most speed out there, but I am happy with what I have. I currently use a 15" PB as my main machine and run a second monitor. I… -
Re: If you're having very slow load times...
Hello, I experiencing low upload speed. I live in Central Europe and from my point of view smugmug server is rather slow compares to servers located in Europe... Smugmug connection to London Frankfurt My tracert list to smugmug is following: 1 19 ms <1 ms <1 ms aa.bb.cc.dd 2 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms aa.bb.cc.dd 3 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms… -
Re: You want answers? We need questions! (or ask Ron Reznick)
Something I have struggled with are the white birds. Backgrounds could be the sky or vegetation. Even at -1EC, I sometimes end up OE. This is the reciprocal of the dark subject/light background situation. What you need to do is train your eyes to luminosity values to make this sort of thing easier (check out that greyscale… -
Re: Undecided
Hello, Two weeks ago I was in a similar situation regarding upgrading my camera body. I had the XTi(400D) for a little over a year, it was my first DSLR and was pretty happy with it. But after a while there were some features I started to wish it had. The the 50D uses the newest image processor, the 40D is a nice camera,… -
Re: Zeiss Distagon T* 21mm F/2.8 ZE (Canon EF)
Sure I can do that. In fact I just did after reading this. I guess the neighbors thought I was nuts running out and popping my flash off 18 times per image for 6 images at 2am here but I'm sure the rumors are already worse than the reality. Or wait, maybe that's the other way around? :D First you have to know that I shoot… -
