Autumn(?) in the North Cascades
Several days ago I drove up to Rainier for the sunrise and to shoot some fall color afterward. I had severely underestimated how cold it would be there, and had to leave early so that my fingers wouldn't fall off (they still hurt even when I got home 2 hours later). The good news is that the mountain was completely… -

Re: First wedding ever, please let me know what you think
EC, I don't know wether you actualy want to be a shooter or you did this as a favor and are hoping to get someone to tell you you did OK. For my part as a shooter for 20++ years you did do OK and I have seen plenty worse pics than what is here by people with loads more experience than you. While I think points made about… -
Re: RIP Whipping Post
One of the best things about Dgrin is the great support that is brought by those at Smugmug and through the moderators who genuinely try to help. While it is impossible that everyone will agree all of the time, at least a response is given 99% of the time (even though we may not like the response). What set Dgrin apart… -
Re: How many images to provide the customer?
Think about it like shooting a baby. The parents want some shots without the baby crying. You could spend an hour waiting for that moment and capture 3 to 5 images. While you would love to give them 10 or more, the opportunity did not present itself in the time allotted. The wedding pros that I know try to get the shots… -
Re: Raw
I am still using the edition of ps I purchased many years ago when I was working for a newspaper, at the time that we made the HUGE switch over to scanning negatives and e-mailing our images - seems like ancient history now. Of course it was a big improvement over shooting, developing, printing, and hand-delivering the… -
Re: Adapters/Contax/Contarex....what is the truth?
I don't claim to be an expert but I believe the Contax series of cameras and associated lens mounts is one of the more confusing for recent camera and lens collectors in the history of cameras in general. The first Contax cameras in common use were the Contax RangeFinder 35mm bodies. The lens mount is commonly abbreviated… -
Re: your thoughts on this setup?
My input... The first setup seems over priced. You are getting two strobes with two stands and a soft box for one and a umbrella for the other. I have not itemized the difference in prices between the first setup and other strobe setups. You might want to look at the Alienbee strobes: http://www.alienbees.com/flash.html It… -
Re: Investment in DX body and lenses a dead end?
My Professional Opinion: Alright, as a full time photographer who has been shooting DX for about 4 years now, here's my take: Bottom line is, I gotta get work done, DX gets the work done without complaints from my clients, and FX costs twice as much. End of discussion. Sort of. Yes, A D700 would be really sweet. Yes, I… -
Re: Tri-Pod Stability
For me it was the right move.....the tripod I use is very much like this one linked HERE.....someone at Philly Photo got sloppy and used a photo of 3 section to sell a 4 section pod......here are my reasons....I did not want 2 or 3 or 4 tripods....one for each type of shooting.......so I looked, I bought and I returned…
