Re: What fast zoom should I get for my Nikon?
Have you thought about either the Nikon 50's (1.8 or 1.4) or the Sigma 30 (1.4) or the Nikon 85 (1.4) ? None of them are zoom, but if you want low light performance for cheap, then those would probably be good. The Nikon 50 1.8 is the cheapest at about $100 or so (I'm in China so I'm not sure about the conversion rates) I… -
Re: Nikon D600 - advice on walkaround zoom lens please
I have the D600's older brother the D800, and made the transition to full frame as well. Previously I had a 18-200 lens (which with crop mode was more like that 28-300). I loved it, used it all the time. Gave it to my wife when I moved to full frame. I mention this because as I started in full frame I initially tried the… -
Re: An impromptu trip to a beach....
Thanks Jeff. I think the 200 IS a keeper, although there is a definite learning curve with it, and one which I didn't expect since I've used long lenses before (I still have my 70-210, and sold a 55-250 to fund this purchase), and didn't have THAT much trouble acclimatizing to the 85 1.8 and 100 2.0. But 100 to 200 is a… -
Re: Does anyone have this flash bracket?
Custom Brackets I have used the Digital Pro M both handheld and on a tripod. I have yet to use it on my mono. There are some very nice features to the bracket. First, it is very light weight, and is solidly machined from aluminum (I think). It has a very solid pro feel to it and nothing feels flimsy. Second, it is very… -
Re: Canon digital Rebel XT-which lens
There is no right answer. For the most part, lenses are "priced perfect". There are plenty of vendors, and lenses are fairly stable over time (not like computers or digital cameras which improve by leaps and bounds and fall in price like rocks). As such, if you find one lens is 3 times the price of another -- you can bet… -
Re: Jill-e bag
Jill-E Small Bag is really attractive, but it might be too small for my needs....It looks like a very nice purse, and would be great for a wedding photog. Straps are a nice faux reptile skin pattern. I bought one today, and decided on the small rather than medium. It cost me $139CDN, the medium is priced at $190 plus tax.… -
Re: What do you get... (lens discussion)
Of course it won't be wide enough on a crop sensor camera to address all your needs, The Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 is also a VERY good lens as it is very versitile. It isn't a true macro lens, but will focus at 12 or 13 inches making for some nice close-up work. It isn't "silent" but isn't annoyingly loud either. It focuses much… -
Re: What lens??
You're thinking of doing a wedding with a rebel XT and 3 of the cheapest lenses that canon makes? Is it volunteer work? Because if it's paid work, I think this is this one of those "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all moments"... If you're being paid, you need proper glass, a proper flash, and… -
Re: Butterfly-newbie
Advice regarding tubes + EF-S Another very new poster here, who was not too long ago in pretty much the exact same situation, with a bit of advice regarding the extension tubes: I think you may find that the tubes, even just a 12mm tube, may cause an EF-S zoom to focus extremely close, and probably too close. A year ago I… -
