Re: School asked me to do ALL team & posed sport pics
I Know EXACTLY How You Feel! What started out as an effort to take pictures of my three daughters at their cheer competitions has evolved into a small side business. Since I don't yet have the DSLR and lens I really want, I was humbled people thought enough of what I could get with my prosumer to pay. With the gym… -
Re: Fixing bad purple fringing
DivaMum, to keep in mind - "what is PF, really?" This might help you combat it in PP. Most of the time it is an avalanche effect of longitudinal CA - wavelengths are not focused at the same distance. This is usually only visible as slight discolourations of high-contrast edges, but if you combine this effect with SEVERE… -
Re: Which cameras to get - for an R&D Lab - and "hi"
We have a Macro forum with some wonderful suggestions on equipment and lighting: http://dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23 http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=143373 For the material sizes you have indicated I suggest that in addition to a dSLR you need: A standard/normal lens, to capture the large sized "drills in here that… -
Re: Portrait Lens for Canon 40D
I agree with Ziggy53 I usually do agree with his recommendations. I do like a lens that is around 85-100mm for head and shoulders portraiture. I often use my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro lens for head and shoulders portraiture. The combination of focal length, f/2.8 aperture and great bokeh makes this a sweet lens for shooting… -
Re: Opinion on mirrorless cameras
I like m4/3s cameras, but I have not disposed of my Canon system, and will not. I find uses for both systems, especially with over seas air travel concerns. I purchased a Panasonic GF-1 when it was introduced several years ago, as I was interested in its smaller form factor. Below ISO 500, It took fine pictures, but was… -
Re: Eliminating 4x6" prints
Glort - actually, the idea of 5x7 should be irrelevant. The OPs stated purpose was he wanted parents to buy larger prints to make their kids feel like stars. That's an emotional goal, not a business goal. So, if you want to get down to it, the question becomes - is the OPs goal: 1) help kids feel like stars or 2) increase… -
Re: London!
You'll be to the east of Docklands Docklands, but London's excellent public transport makes it easy to get around. It is, however, expensive these days (get an Oyster card for the tube!), so be prepared for sticker shock. Even though public transport is great, it is also a GREAT city for walking - most areas are quite safe… -
Re: No images, just holiday musing
Got my first film camera as a teenager (Pentax ME Super) because I wanted to shoot my friends at the horseshows I attended. Enjoyed it, but never really learned the technical basics, and just relied on aperture-priority. Had the 50mm it came with and a Tokina 70-210. The entire kit was stolen in a burglary when I was a… -
Re: I need suggestions for getting sales
I completely agree with what Denise has said so far. The watermark smack dab in the center of the image is incredibly distracting and will discourage sales. Put it at the bottom of the image and make sure to set opacity around 40%. The point of a watermark is not to get in the way of the image. It in no way will stop… -
Re: Photographer of the yr 2015 shortlist
This one: "JWildgoose This is all so interesting, I worked as one of the freelancers at The Guardian (and later The Observer) in the mid 80s and early 90s and it strikes me how much has changed, and how much hasn't. Digital has made a huge impact on the industry, as has internet connectivity. Firing pictures down a fast…
