Re: Phone upgrade time: Which has the best camera?
Considering only photographic qualities, Nokia does have the 2 - phones I would interested in: Nokia Lumia 920 Nokia PureView 808 Ideally, if I was filthy rich, I would consider having both. The Lumia 920, in addition to the things that you mentioned, has arguably the best low-light capabilities of any phone-camera system… -
Re: Photographing the Perseids meteor shower this weekend?
I think a typical exposure is f2.8 at 30 seconds at ISO 1600. Use a wide angle lens, 16, 20, 24mm or so - wider is better I think. For exposures shorter than 30 seconds, you will not see star movement with short focal length lenses. This image was shot at ISO 800, probably f5.6 for 58 seconds with a 21mm Zeiss Distagon on… -
Re: Model in Studio - Photo Critique Please
Except for the hands, this photo reminds me of a 1965 David Bailey photo of model Jean Shrimpton. This one: http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/ra-magazine/winter2006/preview/artful-shopper,41,RAMA.html In your photo, the hands add to your model's facial expression which, without them, would mean nothing. But because of her… -
Newbie: Ruby, OAuth
I'm just starting to mess around with the API. I'm hoping to write something in ruby that will do a bulk update of captions for images in an account. I'm getting hung up on the use of OAuth and am using the oauth gem but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how OAuth is going work without a browser. For the… -
Vivitar 105mm, f2.8 used as macro lens
Meet my latest lens, the Vivitar 105mm, f2.8, M42 mount. I'm not actually sure why I bought this lens. It doesn't really replace anything I have. It's an old manual focus lens, that I have to use via an adapter, so it's not too convenient to use. It was pretty cheap at $41 USD; yeah that's it, it was cheap. Besides, I just… -
Le Bic, Qc - Canada (1)
Le Bic is a scenic village on the southern shore of the St. Lawrence river. A good part of the shore and river is a protected area within the provincial parks system. Hills and islands bump into the water - the sea actually since this is salt water moved by tides. Sunsets are spectacular and wildlife abundant. A week can… -
Two weeks in Hawaii -56K warning - Part I
Hi Y'all, I first visited Hawaii in 1968. Unfortunately I was on a military flight headed for Vietnam. During our two hour layover we were surrounded by MPs whose job was to keep us from having to decide whether or not to continue on to Vietnam or to see Hawaii instead. Ever since then I have wanted to go back and see what… -
SmugParty 'Smugged Mug' Photo Contest - Vote for winners!
SmugMug's 5th Anniversary Gala was a smashing success! We built it and they came... oh boy did they come! The Smug Your Mug Photo studio was Times Square on New Years Eve. Undaunted by the chaos, SmugMaster Shay furiously snapped a continuous stream of uniquely Smugged Mugs. We here at Smug HQ have compiled the 50… -
