Re: Guide to determine new Print Prices
In general a descent price for an 8x10 is between $30 and $50. Some can charge much more, there is a girl that was on creativelive.com that charges $150 for an 8x10 and she seems to have a $4000 sales average and has a staff of like 30 or something with second shooters. I use to offer sheets, an 8x10, two 5x7's, four… -
Re: The Junior Musical Recital.
Jiro, Here are some comments from me, and take them all with a grain of salt since I'm fairly amateur myself. As a note over the whole post, you just have a ton of pictures here, and when none of them are spectacular you might be less likely to get comments. We live in a world where people can download an entire,… -
Re: In Desperate Need of an Upgrade
You are left behind in terms of noise at the moment more with your lenses than your 40D. I'd invest in better glass first. Personally, if I had your stuff, I'd want to get rid of the 28-135 and 17-85 lenses and get some good solid constant F2.8's. You're shooting with some relatively slow lenses for low light, and I think… -
Re: Alternatives for storage on travel
Various CF cards When my newest camera I was using was the 40D I never really noticed a great deal of difference between CF cards and used old ones right next to what were my newest 300X Lexar UDMA CF cards. However, when I began shooting with a 7D, I noticed that the older slower cards were significantly slower in… -

North Korea (DPRK) Victory Day - July 2013
I lead another epic tour in North Korea in July and August 2013 during the Victory Day celebrations. We were right next to the military parade, we ran a 10k race through Pyongyang, saw the last year of Arirang Mass Games, visited the DMZ, hiked the mountains in the south east - Kumgangsan, went swimming in the ocean on the… -
Hoods Up! at Speed, Style, and Beauty
I finally finished processing my shots from my second outing to the MFA's exhibit, Speed, Style, and Beauty: Cars from the Ralph Lauren Collection. This time it was Hoods Up! Evening and Erik (Dr. It) Miller accompanied me. I've already posted some of the people centered shots here. Now it's time to get right down to the… -
Project: 580 EX II External Power from SLA Battery to High Voltage Port
Hey all, I'm looking for the electronic nerds around here. I'm working on building the following and I'd like input or recommendations for resources that others might know about. I've got 4 Canon 580 EX II's that I'm shooting with all the time; a lot of out door, on location, compete with the sun type of stuff. Invariably… -
Improve Share Group Navigation
There are two things that I'd really like to see improved upon in smugmug's implementation of share groups. Both of them have to do with Navigation. The second item is much more important than the first. But solving the first could also potentially solve the second. So here goes: 1) Right now I use a bit of javascript to… -
Dead scanner. Looking for suggestions.
I have had an Epson Perfection 1670 for a little over 10 years (bought refurb'd from Epson for $79 as a short term solution). I haven't been too happy with its capabilities for scanning slides, but it has done a decent job with some of the printed photos I have scanned. However, I think it has finally hit the recycle…
