Re: NOTEBOOK - A New Challenge
Better late than never, right? I thought of this assignment so many times last week while fishing. The area was so mucky I didn't dare bring my camera, though I wished for it many times. I took so many photos in my brain to make up for the lack of a camera in my hands. Setting is this: Landscape oriented, wide angle, color… -
Re: still even more motocross.
sure I have lots. and thanks for the compliments. I would stay away from jumps. they tend to be the first place you gravitate to with a camera but they can be tricky with focus and other things. find a place where you can get close, with good light preferably, and try for close up shots. this one was literally 15 feet away… -
Re: First time D-SLR recommendations?
I got a chance to compare my 20D with a friends 30D this last weekend during a wedding/Garden party (we weren't the photogs). Here is my $0.02 cents. If you are doing PJ; avoid the 10d or the Digital rebel. The big disadvantage is startup time. The 20d and the XT start up in 0.2 seconds, from cold to actually shooting.… -
Re: SmugMug Bug Reporting Thread
Howdy Mick, Thando asked me to take a look at your issue here. Those tacked on numbers (we call them serials) are purely there to trick your browser into downloading the new image instead of pulling the old one from cache. We only store one copy of any given image. You can put any valid integer you want in there. I'm… -
Re: >>> LPS#19 - Feedback Thread
Jeroen's comments... Jeroen sent me these via PM (thanks! ) 01 - #47 – kwalsh – Reaction Wow, this one fits the theme very well. A thought and an action in one. Funny idea and well excecuted. The glove is great! The only thing is the guy’s face that looks a bit grainy. Allways shave before modelling! 02 - #70 – ravic -… -
Re: A day of firsts
Thanks Steve :D As far as your comments, "Hey, get outta my head".... Your contrast comment is right on. Not only was the fox heavily sidelit, as his shadow shows, I used a much higher contrast setting during RAW conversion (like 40 versus 15). Were you there peeking over my shoulder?...lol I can tone it down, but even… -
Re: Practising with portraits
Exactly. I seem not to have saved the psd file, but those are the moves I made. There's nothing precise about it, as this is just a preparatory move to bring the image into a decent range. Final precision would take place at the end. Keep in mind, LAB is not the best place to fine tune skin tone. In fact, it's awful, for… -
Re: Just downloaded Lighroom for a free trial
Hey Mary, Something that hasn't really been discussed here is that Lightroom is one part of the workflow equation - it is not designed to be the stand-alone, end all photo editor. For the weekend photographer that shoots 30 or 40 photos and then wants to clean them up, Camera Raw/Photoshop CS2/3 will be all they need.… -
Re: am i missing something?
Is there only one correct way to write an essay paper? Is there only one way to bake a cake? Is there only one correct way to paint a flower? You quote "artistic" like it is a fringe idea. Au Contraire!. That should be the motivation behind setting your exposure in the first place. Now on to the technicals.… -
Re: Challenge 64 Winner
grazie Thank you both... and thank you all, for the votes-of course-and for the help getting the shot processed correctly. It is a testament to the value of participating at DGrin (lurkers, ahem, I'm calling you out), because this was certainly no prize winner when I first posted the shot for critique. It is hard to…
