Re: Canon 400 F2.8 vs 600 F4
If I were looking into some spending some pretty serious loot for birding I'd go with a 1D4/500mm/TC combo. Just Google Romy Ocon(goes by liquidstone on some forums), the guys got crazy skill when it comes to photographing anything at distance(especially birds[ranked 117 out of the top 1000 by fat birder]). He stacks TCs… -
Weekly Assignment #117: WB Extreme
Most of the the time we're struggling to get our White Balance "right". We use color charts, gray targets, gizmos, gels, software, all in the name of bringing the different color temperature light sources together... How about we do it the other way this time? Set the WB way out of whack and see if you can get some… -

Re: WTB: dependable CF card reader
New Egg has 117 usb 2.0 CF readers. Many of them don't require a cable. Here's the one I'm currently using and am quite happy with, it I think meets your needs statement very well. Sadly it's currently listed as out of stock. The best part of it's design is that the usb connector is sticking out of a plastic end that is… -
Stationary bird photo focus - Is this bad because of me or the gear?
Every year the cormorants come to Huntington Beach's Central Park to breed in the eucalyptus. Pretty fun, but walking underneath the trees is.....ill-advised. Don't look up. :p I took this photo yesterday and tinkered a bit with it, but I'm really not happy with the focus. Trying to decide if that's a function of… -

Re: How can I upload pictures?
Hi Gopher! The best way to post images on DGrin is to first upload them to a photo sharing website like smugmug.com, photobucket.com, flickr.com, etc. and then embed them using UBB code. If you want to attach the pictures to a post they must be quite small - Jpegs need to be no bigger than 146.5 KB with dimensions no… -
Re: Summer in Death Valley
Thanks - Do a google search for drunk Ewoks, you won't be disappointed :) I want to go back there too and I was just there! Next time it will probably be in fall or winter. The Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes (the primary and largest dunes at Death Valley). They have a parking area now (as opposed to the shoulder of the road like… -
Re: Getting the best BIG print?
We don't really have enough information here. While the printer itself is 254dpi (I'm assuming that info is correct), simply up-rezzing the iamge to 254dpi is likely to have little impact on the image quality. For reference I routinely print 20x30 poster prints with zero up-rezzing from an 8.2 million pixel camera. This is…
