USA Road Trip (VA - CA - VA) 56k Beware
Hi guys. This is my first post after finding this great site earlier today. Just thought I'd share one of my favourite journeys that I did last year... I had finished my job in the states after 17 months of constant work. I was 6 weeks away from returning to the UK with my girlfriend to finish my studies. This is the… -
SONY DSC-F828 problem. Looking for users or help forum
Am having a weird thing happening with my 828 in "P" mode. Seems like the camera can't decide between aperture/shutter combos and toggles between settings like crazy. Viewfinders toggle between dark and normal at the same time. When this happens, the toggling is at a rate of about 3 or 4 times per second. Sometimes… -
Rural China
I visited Mainland China for two weeks in April of this year. Although I visited many of the more famous tourist attractions such as the Great Wall and The Forbidden City, I also had the opportunity to visit with a rural Chinese family who live in the Yangshuo area of Southern China. The farmers of this area of China still… -
Mini Challenge #95 - Panoramas
Panoramas Begins May 6th and ends May 20th at 10pm (PST). Panoramas are undoubtedly one of my favorite forms of photography. Whether you take a pan to convey a wider scale, or use it in conjunction with a zoom lense to get more detail and sharpness, or make a 360 degree view, panoramas are an art form which takes a good… -
Re: How To Maximize Your Findability (Search Engine Stuff)
If I search Google as follows I get 2,000+ page results from your site: site:mike.imagesinthebackcountry.com If I click Images, it's down to 95. All but about a dozen (which you've linked elsewhere) are the homepage/category thumbnails, so your site is really not findable in Image Search. I think it may vary by SM gallery… -
Re: Computer problems
AOL is evil.:D I used to be a tech at an ISP back in the mid nineties. It was right around the time internet access went from hourly charges to monthly flat rates. The company I worked for had their own dialer for Windows 3.11 but used the native DUN on windows 95 for connection. AOL of course had their own dialer and… -

Re: Vegas - night shots in particular
I'm working from memory here, and as much as that place changes it might be too stale... but here's some ideas of locations that google earth's sat images seem to imply might still work: 1. Hardrock hotel parking ramp. (north of the casion, on Paradise between Flamingo on the north and Harmon on the south.) 2. The Rio… -
Re: Any Cross Border Shipping Advice?
You can actually do your own brokerage: it's just paperwork, but it's hard to convince shippers to ship, then hold goods while you do the brokerage. I am fortunate enough to live in Ottawa so I live close to the border... 45 minutes from Ogdensburg, so I always ship UPS to Ogdensburg UPS store which will hold a package for… -
Re: 300mm lens shootout
Interesting Charles - the objective lenses diameters are the same - maybe for zoom lenses the objective lens diameter has other variables than just aperature. But for a prime lens, is it not true that the diameter of the front element is the major factor in the maximum f stop since f stops are a ratio of focal length to…
