Re: Photos Slow to Load
TEST 1: ** Please note 2 of these tests would simply not finish. One got stuck on 18% and the other on 9%. It seems that the kbps keeps going down and down to about 60 and then keeps trickling down. I'm going to let one of these tests keep running but im not sure if it will ever finish. This is similar to what I experience… -
Re: They say “pretty pictures” but don’t purchase
Yes, I am. :D I use my SM site to make money on two fronts-- selling prints and downloads is the obvious one. I shoot uncommissioned events and watermark images and have found fairly steady sales from that. I also use my SM site to book shoots and use google checkout for payments/deposits. That has been the single best… -
Re: So what's Mongrel been up to? (LAX!!!)
Ok...I'm 'back'.... Anyway, got off a couple tangents there so let's see if I can wrap it up somewhat before going off to bed... We enjoy taking pictures... We invest in gear because we enjoy taking pictures...:uhoh We get better, people notice and show interest in our pics... We invest in MORE gear and TIME.... Now we're… -
Re: "Subbing" out the shooting for double bookings?
I had the same thing back in '95. Went full on into weddings, spent a fortune on advertising and pretty soon I was turning down as many as i was shooting because they all seemed to want the same days when half of the rest of the month was free. I got a trainee that was a keen amatur but had never shot wedding and showed… -
Re: what computer stuff to get?
I agree with pyry. The HP 2509m is not even close to a decent monitor for image editing. It is just OK; the market it is aimed at is the 1080p video watching crowd and gamers. Main short coming for image editing/viewing? - 6bit TN TFT LCD panel. - also 1920x1080 native resolution Personally I'd take a smaller 22" 1680x1050… -
Re: [RESOLVED] SmugMug API 1.1.0 bug: smugmug.images.upload method returns incomplete XML
Thanks! OK. Due to the incomplete documentation, I'm not sure whether I'm using Upload via POST or smugmug.images.upload. For the most part, I am using the SmugMug 1.1.0 REST API. For image uploads, I just kept tinkering with it until it worked. I am uploading via POST, but I thought I was doing it with the… -
Re: advice needed on session fees
First, listen to Shay Stephens. He is there already with both feet in. Look at his website and the prices for his range of services. And he's only been doing this professionally for about two years now. But he's real good at it, and by looking at just a portion of your images, you are also ready for the bigger scene of… -
Re: Advice for shooting shutter priority in indoor arenas?
My advice is - you shouldn't use shutter priority. It's a poor choice for most sport shooting and particularly low light. As another poster mentioned, shutter priority allows the camera to meter the situation and adjust the aperture to obtain proper exposure. You are getting dark photos most likely because you don't have a… -
Re: (got the) post-processing blues
A lot of really good advice here. I'll cover my own experiences. I was in the same quagmire you now find yourself in about a year ago when I really got serious about my photogtaphy. I spent way too much time in front of the PC incessantly tweaking each image & not really knowing where I was going. I first got a couple of… -
Re: Smugmug State of the Union...
Thanks for the thoughtful response. I don't have a good idea, but I agree with your lose-lose comment to some extent. When someone new goes there, what they see makes sense, and what you get from them is what you want (most likely). However, I think after a period of time it is fundamentally discouraging to go there and…
