Re: EXIF Reader -> Focus Distance
A poster in DPR indicated that-- "Different lenses have a different maximum distance beyond which the lens exif reports a fixed distance the longer the lens the greater the maximum distance reported. For the AF-S 300mm f2.8G ED VR it is ~49metres, for my Sigma 800mm f5.6 it is 125m , within their working ranges the… -
Re: Where will our pics be in 100yrs?
100 years is much longer than it used to be. Barring the collapse of civilization, in 100 years there will be mountains, planets, universes of images stored online. This is already true, but multiply by a billion or more. I think that every day people take more pictures than they did in a whole year in the 60s. Expect that… -
Re: My first "real" portrait attempt
Black velvet = wonderful, but remember that dress material fabrics are usually only 45" or occasionally 60" wide. If you're gonna go the velvet route, check out the upholstery section where material is generally sold in wider widths; it is, of course, more expensive the wider it is, but at least you get what you need that… -
Re: Tracking pictures
Which GPS unit will you be using??? Just be sure to get the accessory cable for downloading to you computer...same cable can be used to download from the GPS mfg'ers site for upgrades and various maps. A digital tape recorder is also handy so that you can quickly keep notes...much faster than trying to dig out a pen… -
Re: More Wedding Shots....
Thanks for all the nice comments :) To be honest I don't think I'm good enough to actively pursue wedding bookings for now. I still have a lot to learn and more equipment to buy, but isn't that always the case :) For the people interested in how I made the layouts above here's the short and sweet of it...... Feel free to… -
Re: LAB and B&W Conversions
This image is a great example of why it's a bad idea to leave B&W to any automated procedure. Conversion to B&W is essentially ambigious. If two different colors have the same luminosity, should they be the same shade in the conversion? Or different shades? Photoshop determines the luminosity by a simple formula:L = 60%… -
Re: Who are you people??
What a fun read, Kate! Thanks for starting this thread. 1. Karen. I can't believe I am 60. How did that happen? 2. My father took most of the photos on our family vacations, but I had a Brownie and took a few. 3. My husband bought me a Canon AE-1 Program after our first child was born. I enjoyed taking family photos until… -
Re: Alkali Lake
I assume you are talking about the star ones? All taken with the Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm. Each individual shot was taken at 30 secs, f/3.5, ISO-1600, matrix metered. These shots were taken around 1.5 hours before sunrise. As the sun gets close to rising, it washes out a lot of the stars so I made it a point to come… -
Re: Monitor for Windows8
To refresh this point. We bought the HPZR2440W which looked fantastic on the new PC. The PC was intensely irritating thanks to Windows 8. Goodness me what a botch-up Windows 8 is, deluged with advertising and pushing every few minutes to a MS ecosystem that we do not appreciate. Non-explorer browsers give problems… -
Re: Do you charge for photos at a non profit event?
In my experience it's not good for one shooter to cover more than one game at the same time. It's possible to do it in T-ball and AA, where every player gets to bat every inning. You do T&I for two teams before their game, shoot action for half the game, then go over to the other field and shoot action for half the game…
