Re: Film Heads
Funny Liz. Since I always have a camera with me (and as you know, that includes when I'm sleeping) they are used to it. Thermometer is crucial for color, but not really for b/w if your home is around 70 degrees and your chemicals are around that temperature. I use plastic reels as I have read that they are easier; I've not… -
Re: MF 16 bit files only marginally better than 35mm??
Again, I'd disagree. Anyone can pull up a number of reasons why one camera (whatever it is, compact, micro 4/3, FF ....etc) is better than another. For me - Top of my list is image quality, resolution and clarity, colour rendition and dynamic range. After that it's "How big can I print this?" ..... everything after that… -
Re: Questions before jumping in...
We help all comers. Experienced html-ers and web-n00bs alike. Fast and furious, too. Check out the different threads on the customization forum. Here's a great example, this photographer was a n00b at this stuff, and then he actually, after a month, built several other smugmug sites for his colleagues!… -
Re: portrait help please!
Elaine, First, that’s a beautiful photo. I’m not an expert but here goes: The color seems way out of balance. I don’t know why it came out that way. I don’t know enough to go in and fix it locally. So I took it into cmyk and, at the bridge of the nose in that shadow, the readings are c-44 m-51 y-82 k-28. Okay, that’s… -
Re: Black & White Question(s)
We print our BWs on Fuji Crystal Archive paper. I myself do A LOT of BW printing, and find the quality to be very very good. My site is www.moonriverphotography.com If you'd like, I'd be happy to fire off a test print for you. You can email me at help@smugmug.com with a link to an original size bw, your mailing info, etc,… -
Re: Specific tripod selections, narrowed down to three choices
Again, very helpful, thank you. Have to keep reminding myself "larger ball, drag control". Easy to get carried away with weight advantages on way or the other, we're talking a pound or two here, but add-up all the little 1/2 and 3/4 lbs, and gets to be important to the overall kit. The Gitzo continues to attract my… -
Re: LCD's viewsonic, Dell or what
Fop the best colour accuracy and the least shift of gamma/brightness/colour when you move your eyes off center, try to buy a monitor that uses a S-IPS panel or a S-PVA panel. There are some new A-MVA just entering the market that are said to be good as well. In very general terms, stay away from TN panels (as found in the… -
Re: Who are you people??
Hi everyone 1. My name is Claire and I am 31, not married, no kids 2. In ‘normal life’ I am a quality manager for the development and manufacturing of medical devices 3. I am French and expat all the way. I have lived 3 years and a half in Australia in Sydney and I am now in Germany in a small town in the heart of the… -
Re: Terre Cotta Warriors
Thanks guys. The gradients are CG of course, but the subjects do not stand out as Noisy at all to me - even on my new monitor. I finally quit studying new monitors, and just set up my new LG 31 MU97. I like being able to tour museums and bring home nice memories in digital files - unfortunately that frequently means… -
Re: To create most recent folder and Gallery.
Hi David, excellent question. I'm going to offer a different solution than the "Feeds" option Denise suggested earlier. Instead, you could use a "Smart Gallery." 1. Create a new gallery called "Most Recent Photos" (you may have to delete your page with the same name first). 2. Select whatever settings you want and click…
