FS: Big 'ole Yard Sale (lenses, body, monolights)
Hello everyone, my name is Mike Randle from St. Louis, MO. Over the years I've acquired a heap of gear I no longer use and I hoping it can find a home here. First up, Tamron 17-50, f/2.8 : Great condition. Used for a season or two of weddings. Now shoot the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS. Glass is clean and everything is smooth.… -
Amgen Tour in T.O.
On Saturday Feb 15th Amgen Bike Tour (from Montery to LA) came to Thousand Oaks. I decided not to go to the finish line, and instead have chosen an intersection of Moorpark and Lynn: about 5 miles from finish, great view, no parking restrictions and only 5 minutes from home:-) The whole thing happened during less than a… -
Cleaning out my electronics closet (again)
It seems like I just did this - and yet the technology closet is full again. I'm offering these things here at low, get-it-out-of-my-house, prices. Many of them have nothing to do with photography but most folks on these boards are techies anyway. Pictures are not available upon request unless you want to pay a $5 hassle… -

Re: Hawk, Ducks, GBH and Geese
Hi Ric, Thanks for your comments. The lens I used for these shots was the 300 2.8 with 1.4 extender, handheld. With the FF there was no sensor factor so I was shooting 420mm. Here is a link to a full shot of the geese to give you an idea just how well this camera picked out the geese and ducks and the detail it gathered… -
Re: Anyone heard of this issue?
Again, welcome to the world of color calibration. ;) Go over to a computer where you think it isn't happening, calibrate their system with the Huey, and then try again. Chances are that their monitor has a consumer "wicked vivid" calibration out of the box and is showing images more saturated than they should be. Once… -
Re: Computer Benchmark Tests with Photoshop
No lightroom figs, as I'm not aware of a standardised benchmark that everyone is using. However, Retouch Pro test: Home built Intel i7-920 @ 2.66GHz (quad core native, with hyperthreading enabled for 8 Logical cores) Asus P6T Deluxe Mobo 6Gb Corsair Dominator DDR3 @ 1600MHz in triple channel (3x2GB) All drives are Samsung… -
Re: flash me
A flash that has an autofocus assist light can speed up your operation in the dark by decreasing the autofocus time. Autofocus accuracy is generally also improved. The assist light is only valuable at short distances. I've seen people using flash in a movie theater. Just because others do something doesn't mean they know… -
Re: Family studio portraits C&C please
Well, that would tend to explain the lack of contrast. When you start with under-exposed images and then push the exposure in post, you pay the price somewhere. It's usually in increased noise and loss of contrast. Since you don't yet have a light meter, you can always use the histogram in your camera. Since you are…
