Re: which lens - 70-200 2.8 non Is or
I love IS.... Let me preface this post by saying that I am a firm supporter of IS. Photographers who are biased regarding IS capability in lenses often base their bias on several premises which are only partially true. The premises are: 1. Only photographers who are ignorant of proper camera holding techniques or who are… -
Re: Time To Move Up
Hey Nee, I'm afraid it is carved in stone that you will spend many times over the cost of the camera body in glass and other goodies. I'll talk about my Nikon experience as thats what I know about. I started out with the D100 for $1600. Now you need an extra battery that cost $45.00. I added the battery grip (more battery… -

Re: Gymnastics: Canon vs. Nikon; your choice?
If you are using the shutter button and all the AF points to focus in AI Servo mode, if the subject moves out of the focus point and you have the shutter button half pressed then the camera will try to refocus. Letting the camera choose which AF point to use makes the AF a little slower as the computer has to decide. It's… -

Re: Merchandise Photography
I have been avoiding this thread, but it looks like no one is responding. "Your post left me with a lot of questions. I would recommend clarifying with your client exactly what they intend to use the images for, and exactly what their expectations are. Determine color space, file format, and as much specific detail as… -
Re: Easier uploading for pro's?
Hi folks. After reading this thread tonight, I decided to download the trial of Star Explorer. It's working very spotty - Is Star Explorer a beta version, by any chance? I set all my options and confirmed it is connecting with my account. Then I created a new gallery within Star Explorer - all is OK so far. The problems… -
Re: Buying a Camera? How To Not Get Ripped Off.
It's definitely a bait-and-switch scam company, possibly associated with the Brooklyn scammers. One easy way to tell is that their "hot items" are cheap while all the extras are absolutely ridiculously expensive. Check that huge list below the camera... $150 for a GENERIC battery? $70 for a "standard" GENERIC battery? $120… -
Re: Photoshop save for web color shift
Well, I have news for owners of the Dell 30" monitors like we use at SmugMug. While info on the i1 is sparse on X-rite's site (they bought Gretag), one point they did make is how important it is to use the monitor's manual controls to get a good calibration, and they have a mode to assist in that. But our monitors only… -
Re: Monster Truck/Freestyle Motocross Need Help
Main thing is the shutter speed. You may be introducing camera shake and subject movement blur. For a 75-300mm lens on a 1.5x crop factor body, your shutter speeds should be about 1/75 x1.5 -1/300 x1.5= 1/120-1/450 sec's. Having the IS would allow you to reduce the needed shutter speed by a factor of 2 (2 stops) or…
