Routing issue/trouble connecting to smugmug
At the office today I was unable to connect to dgrin, my smugmug site or www.smugmug.com. I tried a couple of times over a few hours and didn't get anywhere. A few minutes ago, I noticed I was having no trouble at all. I tried it again through a VPN to my office--couldn't reach smugmug or dgrin. Here's a traceroute from my… -
Re: Advice needed....
My thoughts:* With a 1.5x "crop factor" on your D300, I don't think you'll need or use the 200-500, so I would leave that at home. * I don't know what you mean by "lots of extra batteries", but I think I would bring one spare battery for the camera(s), and one extra set for the flash. * Filters and knick-knacks - I think I… -
Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
Ouch, only 347kbps from home, completely different network - speedtest now realizes I'm in Pittsburgh, not our corpHQ in NY. Direct to the Speedtest Frederick POP gets 1300. Re: I got my 2nd copy of Sigma 24-70mm HSM lens
The apparent larger depth of field for the sigma lens is vexing me. (again look at the wall texture and cat embroidery behind the chair in the larger photos sigma vs nikkor). How the heck can 2 lenses at the same distance, zoom, and aperture have different depth of field? I understand that there will be some variation in… -
Re: Digital ESP metering ESP, Center weighted averaging metering, Spot metering
The last time I used center weighted was back in '92 when I was shooting with a Nikon FA. The FA only had center weighted metering! A shot like this might be a good candidate for center weighted: Late afternoon light coming through trees. With center weighted the metering would come up with a good exposure for the… -

Need assistance deciphering the clients needs..
Hello to all of you business photogs out there! Netbook Review: Lenovo S10e (hackintosh'ed)
So I am now the proud owner of a Lenovo S10e and thought I would share my thoughts on this netbook as it seems to be a great carry-with-you photo storage and more... For starters, I purchased a refurb Lenovo S10e from the Lenovo Outlet for about $300. The netbook offers incredibly easy access to ram and hard drive (2… -
