Re: ...im not dying for a photo
Certainly is mate..... Here is todays headlines...(this is quite normal for summer but in winter Funny bit is that our storms are very localised....where my wife works (3 miles as the crow flies) they had ice 2 feet deep & i saw none what-so-ever. I watched a 'super cell' build from 3pm & could not believe it would… -
Re: Zeiss Ikophot
Nik - my understanding is that it is grass IN the sunlight. I know that is what Ron Reznick said in his video. So... I just took my 20D outside, set the ISO at 100, and shot a patch of sunlit grass this afternoon at 5:15PM using Av mode. The histogram spike is centered almost perfectly ( maybe 1/3 stop to the right of… -
Re: question regarding using canon speedlite
Hey Cason, When I got to the point that I wanted to know about flash photography more than "turn it on, and it works", the biggest stumbling point was to make the mental break concerning aperture/shutter speed, and how they now differ in their rolls when using flash. There are excellent articles on explaining this. I don't… -
Re: Techniques for Wildlife Photography?
TT, First off, you have to get closer As with any other type of shooting, the more the subject fills the viewfinder, the more detail you will capture and the easier you will be able to lock AF. Small birds over say 75ft away probably are not worth even raising your lens for Larger birds over maybe 120ft, same situation.… -
Re: Cheer event: What to offer?
Hi Rocket, Perhaps your comments were more on the money than what you realised. I drove 1000Km on the weekend to an event the same association was putting on in another capital city to check it out. For a total of 30 hours Driving I spent 4 hours at the event but learned heaps and it was well worth going. The event,… -
Re: Why are 50mm lenses so special?
In over 50 years in photography I have never heard a prime lens refferred to as 1x or 2x. 100mm lens for 35mm is a "normal" lens for 6X9 format. It is certainly not a 2x lens. The only use I have ever heard for 1X, 1.4x, 2X, etc is for lens converters. When applied to any focal length lens they multiply the focal length by… -
Re: 1:00pm sunlight
Do you mean the rimlight coming from behind, or the soft light doing the actual illumination on the visible side of their faces? The soft illumination light is just achieved by flat-out over-exposing the heck out of the image, look down towards the bottom of the image and you can see what the light is like outside of the… -
Re: Help! Lulu calendar disaster
CMYK versus RGB As a graphic designer I must tell all of you there is a huge difference in how you handle your files in Photoshop. First convert to CMYK immediately. It's usually backwards from what designers or pre-press people will recommend, but certain colors do not convert well from RGB to CMYK, and why be… -
Re: Looking for my First "Real Camera" Advice
I didn't mean to offend you. I'm glad you explained your position. It's different than what I thought. I run into people all the time that want to 'take good pictures' and ask me 'what dslr camera should I buy'. My first question to them is what they plan to use the camera for. Over 90% just want to shoot and not worry… -
Re: New to Portraits, C&C please
Don't be discouraged. Use C&C to grow your skills. Leave any potential ego at the door and prepare to learn. The two words that stand out in your title are "Portraits" and "C&C". In my opinion, it is fair for others to ask why you might consider this a portrait. So even if the only thing you learn in this case is - to be…
