Re: A Trip Too Small: Fiji, New Zealand, and Some More
Leaving behind a place we all have always wanted to be since we became climbers, we moved on to a place we all have always wanted to be since we became climbers. It's a rough life, but we rolled into Bishop, CA, with daylight to spare, and after a brief stop at a gear shop (where by the way Kelsey they had two copies of… -
Re: Is There Anyone Here...
Ron, When I had the A700, I (finally) settled on the 16-85 Zeiss, Minolta 70-210 f/4, and Sigma 30mm f/1.4. (I also had the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, which I loved but sold because I didn't use it enough). When I got the D7000 I started with the 18-105, and then the 18-200. I didn't like either. I'm just starting to get my kit… -
Re: Wide Angle help for Christmas
Sure, you can get a wide angle lens for 600 or less that won't leave you wanting for more (for awhile). But which one depends on what exactly you are looking for. Your 18-200 is already pretty wide and if you like it why buy another? If you are wanting to go even wider, you're in luck. Check out the Tokina 11-16. Lots of… -

He will soon begin… -
Profile of a Canon Lens Buyer
I am submiting this posting with permission by the original auther Mark W from the Fred Miranda site. Mark's text struck a chord in that it pretty accurately sums up the profile of a (well financed) Canon system owner at the Canon discussion group at FM's and to a certain extent here at dgrin: "Get a 70-200/4 - love it,… -
Help optimize sharpness in small image
I need to learn how to maximize sharpness on images I reduce in size and dpi. I am shooting images of products for display on a website. After I shoot, I isolate the product with the lasso tool photoshop, use some unsharp mask, and then shrink them with "bicubic sharper" set...then I save them as a .png. I don't know if I… -
Re: Gear - what would you do?
What you have in your arsenal now is very good. The only lens I would strongly suggest is the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. Weddings...indoor ceremony stuff require fast glass as flash is typically not allowed. Try your hardest to take custom white balance in the sanctuary at least. The MKII is a nice camera but realize the magenta hue… -
Re: It's official - I'm partial to B&W... (My latest shoot)
Thank you so much! Thanks, Michael! I would say that the two lenses I use the most are the 24-70 f/2.8 (which JUST replaced my 24-105 f/4) and my 70-200 f/2.8. But my favorite lenses are the 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8. Those two are great for the really shallow DOF and bringing focus to things like eyes, fingers, feet, etc.…
