Re: Monopods
I have a couple of monopods. 1) Manfrotto 3218 with 234 RC head 2) Manfrotto 676B with 482 ball head The 676B is always in the car, and I think in the past year I've used that one far more than the 3218. Not only is it very useful as a "light on a pole" (see other threads) with an SB600 or SB800, but being only 5½ feet… -
Re: Any monopods longer than 6'3"
Seems we've been down this discussion road before... I'm 6'5" and have the Giottos 9780 monopod (69.7") with the Manfrotto MA-234 swivel head (2.4"), a Kirk QR plate (~0.5"), plus the L-bracket and height of my D300, and I find that at full extension, the monopod is just a tad too tall for me, especially if I want to aim… -

Stats Question: How can I make it useful?
Hi, Just signed up for SM! I love it so far except for a couple things that aren't working for me. One of them is that I can't tell from the stats if anyone is looking at my stuff. I have a couple galleries for a large group of clients to view and buy prints/downloads. But in setting these up, I had to view them several… -
Re: Convert GIF 89 to 87a ???
Looking at the content of a GIF, I see that the "GIF89a" is right in the very first bytes. You might try using a binary editor to change that to look like the earlier version. Or you might write (or pay someone to write) some code to make a utility to make the changes. I don't have a GIF87 to look at so I can only show you… -
Re: Great Tutorial on LAB color (easy one!)
Yup. You don't have to convert to Lab to sharpen, just use the Fade, Luminosity option which will introduce no damage in conversions to Lab and back* and allows you to further control this using the opacity slider. *Every time a conversion to LAB is produced, the rounding errors and severe gamut mismatch between the two… -
Re: Margulis "Professional Photoshop, Fifth Edition"
Its not a problem in 16-bit but the conversions are still not lossless. In fact any alteration of original data in any color model results in data loss due to rounding errors (and there are no Lab or CMYK capture devices). Every time a conversion to LAB is produced, the rounding errors and severe gamut mismatch between the… -

Re: What flash should I buy?
It depends on your budget... The top line Canon model is the 550ex II which runs $420 with free shipping from Adorama. The 430ex runs $234 + shipping from the same vendor. One advantage of the 550ex II over the 430ex is that the 580ex Ii can be used as a master with other Canon units as slaves. It is also somewhat more… -
Re: Bay Photo Custom Print Sizes -Requesting 300ppi??
I don’t use either service. I have to assume any time someone asks for 72ppi images, they are using this for screen output on the web. Not that everyone is using a 72ppi output for displays (a urban legend), it is close enough to specify an output resolution for this use. The same is true for output to a printer. Another…
