Re: Classic Car Show
Hey Nik- Don't you just love but hate car shows? There are some really nice cars in that gallery of yours- I went through all 146. :D I like seeing the different styles you went for, reflections, details, low profile, etc. Looks like you ran into the usual car show issues though- cars to close together, people or their… -
Re: Pinnacales National Monument
Ian, I didn't go through the caves. The caves are on the way to the reservoir, and I didn’t go that way this time. The caves are pretty tight, and with my backpack, tripod, etc. would have been tough. You can go through the caves and continue on to the High peaks Trail, but the rout I too was plenty long enough for me. :D… -
Lincoln Woods: Rhode Island's Hidden Foliage Gem
Hello! When most people hear the phrase "New England fall foliage", they first think of New Hampshire or Vermont. But Rhode Island has plenty of brilliant fall foliage to offer - it just comes later in the season around late October. And one of the places to find it is a hidden gem nestled in between Rt 146 and Rt 123 in… -
Re: Lens for street photography
Eddy, If you have an image sharing site, SmugMug account for instance, you can embed multiple images in a single reply. Otherwise, you can attach a single image for each reply. See the following link for ideas: Embedding an image from a hosting site: http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1083138 Attaching an image to a reply:… -
Re: Shadow/Highlights tech question
More on using S/H on the L channel Thanks for pointing this out Rutt. I knew that it was better to do operations like S/H on the L channel, but until I just found and reread pages 146-148 in Dan's book, I didn't really know why. I've read those pages before, but it didn't stick until now. To summarize it for others reading… -
Re: S-l-o-w
I've also noticed that my site has been extremely slow the past few days. Traceroute looks good from me to smugmug. Tracing route to hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms 1 ms <1 ms 192.1.2.2 2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms ip67-88-146-xxx.z146-88-67.customer.algx.net [67 .88.146.xxx] 3 7 ms 7 ms 7 ms… -
Re: Good starter tripod
I'll give my 2cents also. I have a Bogen 3021BPro and a Bogen 488RC2 head. The head runs a little under 90 dollors. I think a good head for the money (good bang for your buck) I wouldnt go down much from here beacuse I would be afraid of the head sliping and damaging my camera and lenses. And those are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy… -

Re: WIDE ANGLE vs. ZOOM
While many would call the lenses i mentioned "Ultra-Wide", I reserve that title for those lenses which produce an angle/field of view (FOV) of around 4x normal/standard for the intended format. The Sigma 12-24mm, f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM, when used on a full-frame camera, definitely meets the criteria as does the AF-S NIKKOR… -
Splash of Fall Color
I was bored last Friday nite. It was dark (duh), raining and cold. I wanted to work on the challenge, so I got my flashlight and went on a leaf hunt. The trees are just now starting to change here in the land of corn, soybeans and brown, but my Gum tree is always one of the first. I arranged the leaves 100 different ways…
