Re: Studio portraits advice with lighting
The biggest problem with multiple lights is their ability to produce repeatable results consistantly. If you have two lights with a variability of 1/3 stop per light between shots, you can be up to 2/3 stop difference between the lights during a shot. 2/3 stop difference is more than enough to be visible. A lot of the… -
Re: Need some advice
Ok, let me see if I can add to the great advice you have already received. You can use the crop tool without any criteria typed and use it as a free hand crop. This way you can set the height and width independently to accommodate the subject in your photo. You already know how to set the criteria for a desired aspect… -

Re: Pricing for Photo Shoot & CD
Hate to derail this thread, but you posted the gallery for critique... my personal opinion (take it for what you paid for it :D) 1. There are some really gorgeous shots in there, but they are BURIED. 192 shots is way overwhelming to go through. As the photographer, you are hired for not only your expertise behind the… -

Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
1316/396 from Tampa Bay Road Runner. That's a bit thin, since I know my line is good for 4000-5000 to, say, Speakeasy Atlanta. Alas, I can't do a 'good' traceroute at the moment conveniently (WinMTR requires admin privs on 2000, and no linux boxen in the room -- and windows' traceroute is ... less than useful... but I… -
Re: 2 weddings, 1 weekend
A battery pack will get you more battery life. It may, depending on the voltage delivered to the capacitors in the flash, reduce the flash recharge time. You need to do the research on that. My other concern with power of the flash itself. According to the specs, yours has a guide number of, I think, 36. The FL-50 has one… -
Re: Maintenance Alert: 8/28 10:00pm - 06:00am PDT
Painfully slow (Overseas) For the past 24 hours, the site has been painfully slow. I am not writing for myself, but also on behalf of all my buddies here in HK who have signed up to smugmug due to my recommendation. It takes over a min for the site to respond at times. And sometimes, simply time out. I know overseas… -
Re: Upload errors
Well, I think you may be onto something John. Here's a copy of my tracert and it looks just like yours. And I'm on the other side of the US, so I'm coming from a completely different route:D:\>tracert upload.smugmug.comTracing route to upload-v2-1649360212.us-east-1.elb.amazonaws.com [204.236.231.18]over a maximum of 30… -
Re: Does anyone do their own photo printing?
I bought the Epson 3880 earlier this year because of a couple of prints that came back from the pro labs just wrong... Yes, I could have spent a little more time fine tuning my output with the print lab, but the Epson rebate was in effect and I wanted more control of my fine art prints...not to mention immediate…
