Re: At Harvard Commencement
This is a response to Tony's comments. It is NOT intended to start a food fight, and I will delete if it does. But I feel a couple points are worth making. First, I say what I say fully aware that we are our own worst editors. Yes, compositionally, and perhaps in terms of lighting, number one is probably the strongest, but… -
Australian Odyssey: Perth
Although the entire country is beautiful, and peopled by the most wonderful residents, I would have to say the highlight of our trip was Perth and Fremantle. My wife and I traveled to Australia to visit my mother's sisters and brother, my aunties and uncles. As my mother had passed away, we wanted to pay our respects as… -
Pleasing Skin Tone
Pleasing Skin Tone Tutorial by Baldy. Much of this was learned from Dan Margulis' book, Professional Photoshop. Great prints: Pleasing skin tone First, the bad news: 99% of all problems with printing photos are related to skin tones. And it's the subject most likely to make photographers weak in the knees. Now for the… -
Re: >>> DSS Challenge #4 (Photo Filters): Feedback Thread
Feedback for Pages 6 and 7 Entries #51 Sibling Rivalry (Michael Atkins) - This is such a good bear shot! I felt the filter effect chosen actually detracted a bit. This might also have been better as a vertical crop. Brings back fond memories of living in Alaska :) #52 Just Married (jeffreaux2) - Another one I agonized over… -
Rope Jump Video! + Art!
Just how do you create a piece or art that is both different and catered to your tastes? This is a question that I am sure every artist thinks about. While I don't actually consider myself an artist I am enrolled in Art classes at the local university, UAA. Thankfully the semester is almost over and the constant barrage of… -
Re: In the Maze
Not so much in that immediate area per se, but the last 14-1/2 years, all over the Mojave Desert and the mountains around it. Starting tomorrow on a photo project of a somewhat local scenic highway that I want to take my time on through the summer. I figure it'll be nice to work up there when it gets hot. It was about 90… -
Tribal Orissa, India.
In February I went on a short guided tour of Orissa in India, mainly visiting tribal villages, markets, and some coastal areas. Orissa is the state in Eastern India situated directly south of West Bengal, and north of Andhra Pradesh.. Orissa is known as a tribal state, because of its 62 indigenous tribes. We saw people… -

Re: New and looking for some help
I strongly recommend allowing more budget for the lenses, unless you are just looking to document and snapshot. The images that people remember are the ones which have some sort of "wow" factor, and most consumer lenses just don't pull it off very frequently. I believe that it gets most interesting when you acquire… -
Re: Pricing for Profit vs Bad Business or Understanding what your Business Model IS!
Sorry but if you are a "Business Consultant" as you claim, then you need to go back to Accounting 101 and review fixed vs. variable costs. Rent, unless you are paying a percentage of sales, is clearly a fixed expense. Doing this $10 job won't increase your rent. Insurance, unless you are paying a per-shoot insurance…
